For those who prefer a little more comedy than terror in their spooky films, this sequel to the popular Addams Family (1991) is just the movie for you. Creepy and quirky all at once, the famous family must contend with Uncle Fester’s gold-digging new wife played by Joan Cusack. Starring Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci - this is a memorable film new to Netflix.
Insidious (2010)

With supernatural elements, this horror movie has all the jump-scares. A family is convinced that their new house is haunted and that their son is possessed by a demon from an alternative universe whilst he is in a coma. Creepy and disturbing, if demon possession is what you want from your Halloween films, then look no further.
Van Helsing (2004)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fdRKme00uI
Packed full of vampires, Frankenstein’s Monster and even a werewolf, there’s plenty to enjoy in this creative monster movie. Focusing on the monster hunter Van Helsing, played by Hugh Jackman as he travels to Transylvania to destroy Dracula. There is an abundance of action sequences throughout and with CGI and creatures galore, it provides some silly Halloween spookiness that is an homage to the monster movies that came before.
The Corpse Bride (2005)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9boDkpEyvc
Perfect for adults and children alike, this animated film could only have been created by Tim Burton. Captivating us all with his tale of an undead bride coming back to life and securing a living husband, this has inspired many Halloween costumes ever since. Gothic and romantic, this spooky film is a classic.
A Quiet Place (2018)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR7cc5t7tv8
This tense movie was big news when it first hit cinemas in 2018. And if you missed it, or just fancy reliving the terror, then Netflix has you covered. Set in a world where making even the slighted sound could lead to your demise, the stakes couldn’t be higher. And for heavily pregnant Evelyn and her family, there’s no let up as they try to evade the creatures that have overrun the earth...
Hereditary (2018)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6wWKNij_1M
This dark movie begins with the death of a family’s secretive matriarch. Grandmother Ellen always kept things close to her chest and very soon her family start to figure out why. They must do their best to get to the bottom of some traumatising family secrets and try and avoid a chilling end in this spooky film.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsIilFNNmkY
Produced by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, this is a hilarious take on the classic horror movie. It transforms all our favourite horror elements, but still keeps that sense of creepiness that we all love in our spooky films. A group of college students in a remote forest cabin find themselves falling victim to unseen forces that seem to be manipulating their every move.
The Invitation (2015)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIZgwvtFxMY
You might think it strange to attend a dinner party at the house of an ex, not least if it's hosted by them and their new partner. And when it comes to Will in The Invitation, you would be exactly right. It’s not long after he and several others arrive at his ex-wife’s dinner party before he starts to suspect that they have something terrifying in store for them all.
Halloween (2018)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ek1ePFp-nBI
This classic horror slasher franchise is back doing what it does best with a sequel to the original 1978 film - scaring us beyond belief! Not least because of the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, who reprises her role as Laurie Strode. She still lives in fear of masked killer Michael Myers who failed to kill her on Halloween night 40 years ago. This is a proper old-fashioned spooky film.
