Kitchens are one of the most used spaces in our homes, and because of this, we really need them to work for us and our daily routines. Which is why keeping them organised is so important.

Knowing how to organise your kitchen properly is an absolute godsend when you're cooking every day and especially when you're writing your shopping list, trying to figure out what you actually need. Using organising tips can also help you double a small kitchen's storage space, which really helps out when you're running out of room for food, pans and more.

That's why, when we spotted organising professional Dilly Carter's reel on her Instagram @declutterdollies, we simply had to share her wisdom on streamlining your dry food storage.

If you struggle with organising your kitchen cupboards in a way that works for you, then Dilly has some fantastic methods for making the most of the space and ensuring it's functional for your daily needs.

"Cupboards can be utter chaos; we don't want that. We want it to look beautiful. Now, you might not have a pull-out pantry like this. You might have five shelves; you might just have one shelf. Why I'm showing you this is so you can take snippets of what I'm showing you and recreate that in your own house," explains Dilly.

These tips aren't just helpful if you want to organise your pantry; they can be customised to suit any sized space.

"The reason that we use glass is that we can see what we've got and we don't overbuy. The reason I haven't labelled any of these with dates to see when they run out is that I use them on repeat," she continues.

"Anything you use on repeat is what you decant; we don't put things into jars that we're never gonna use. We put them somewhere else, so the things I use on repeat are always here. So all my dry pasta, all my lentils and rice, my tins are on a lazy Susan. And then my jars are in this basket here," Dilly shows.

And if you have a larger household where there are always extra packs of pasta or tins of beans just in case, then Dilly also has a solution for that.

"My back stock is in that top basket, so anything messy that I don't want you to see, or I don't wanna see, is in that basket. So, that means that everything can look beautiful, so take snippets of what I've done and recreate that in your own house," suggests Dilly.

"The most important thing is that you give every shelf, every cupboard in your kitchen, a purpose; give it structure. If there's no structure, then you don't know where things are. We want to be able to find things super easily. Everything is about what works for you and your house," she finishes.

If you're trying to organise a small kitchen, having as many jars and baskets as Dilly might not be possible, but you can swap things out for smaller sizes and still achieve the desired effect.

Dilly has also shared her expert advice for maximising storage space in your home, especially the kitchen, which will help with making rooms even easier to clean and keep organised.
