A number of Kinder Eggs have been recalled after it was revealed that a number of products were contaminated with Salmonella bacteria, which is commonly linked to 'food poisoning'
A statement from Kinder stated that they were going to have a 'voluntary recall' of some of their products in Australia and across Europe in the UK and Ireland after certain items were linked to salmonella.
In the UK, 63 people were contaminated with salmonella. Although no deaths have been recorded, the majority of the people affected were young children predominantly aged five years old and under. This has of course resulted in outrage from consumers who cannot understand how this took place.
Addressing the salmonella outbreak, Kinder has apologized and stated that they are investigating this issue further. A spokesperson for the brand said, "The company takes food safety extremely seriously and we sincerely apologize for this matter. Our continued commitment to consumer care has driven our decision today to extend the voluntary recall."
