Here's why the Foreo Luna 4 cleansing device has changed my mind about facial tools
Our tool-averse beauty writer tested the Foreo Luna 4 - and the results were surprising
Having never tried a cleansing tool before, I didn't know what to expect but I was truly impressed by this device. While it's an investment, cleansing well is so such an integral part of skincare, so I'd argue it's worth it if you can afford the £269 price tag. It's lightweight, easy to use and effective. Plus, the depuffing and sculpting settings give the Luna 4 some bonus benefits, to balance out the cost per use.

Why you can trust Woman & Home
Tasked with trying out the Foreo Luna 4 cleansing device, I wasn't sure how to feel. I've long shrugged off facial tools thinking they're expensive gimmicks that you don't really need. As a firm believer that hands are the best tools for cleansing, will this change my mind?
The Foreo Luna 4 Smart Facial Cleansing and Massage Device is a multitasker. One side is the brush, claiming to remove 99% of dirt, oil and makeup residue. The other side massages, which helps reduce fine lines and sagging. The brand has a spectrum of different tools available, including some of the best facial cleansing brush options on the market, so what makes this one different from the rest? And most importantly, is it worth the £269 price tag?
I saw no reason not to try it out for myself to see what the fuss might be all about. Equipped with my best cleansers, I got to work.

Our Beauty Writer's first impressions of the Foreo Luna 4 Smart Cleansing Tool
What is the Foreo Luna 4 like to use?
Let's not beat around the bush, the Foreo Luna 4 is very pretty. A gorgeous lilac specimen that I quite frankly couldn't wait to try out. Annoyingly, the box didn't come with any instructions and I had to download an app, create an account, and attempt 2-3 password combinations, even before the tool graced my face. Slightly annoying, but very 2024 of them.
After slathering my face with my favourite cream cleanser and running the device underwater, I got to work. I used the tool to massage my cleanser into my face with circular motions and I could feel the bristles getting to work straight away. After around 90 seconds the device automatically switched off, which was a handy reminder of roughly how long you should be cleansing your face.
Once I finished cleansing, I applied a serum and tried out the massager side of the Luna 4. This was impressively tech-y, and I enjoyed using it to depuff and sculpt my face. It's something I could see myself doing each evening and over time I'm sure you would notice some anti-ageing benefits.
The facial cleansing settings each have gentle, regular and deep cleanse modes which change the intensity of the pulsations. The same applies when using the massage side of the device. You can connect your device to your phone to control the settings on there or do it manually on the back of the tool. I used my phone to set my preferences on the settings and then each time you turn it on it will remember them; making it quite a quick and easy process after the initial set-up.
Foreo Luna 4 Before and After
Before using the Luna 4, my skin looked and felt lacklustre, dehydrated and tired. After just one use, I could see and feel the difference in my complexion. Just two minutes of use and my skin looked clear, bright and fresh.
My skin felt incredibly soft, smooth and incredibly clean. My blemishes even started to disappear after a few uses too, which was an unexpected bonus. I didn't know how much I needed this device until I started using it and I'm now feeling very attached to the little lilac beauty.
How does Foreo Luna 4 compare to other tools?
It's worth noting that this device comes in three brush options, so you can tailor it to your skin type and needs. Balanced, sensitive or combination skin, each coming with its own gorgeous colour, too. For this review, I tested the purple one which is for sensitive skin.
With so many other facial tools available from the brand, here are the main differences between them all.
- LUNA 4 PLUS – combines the power of cleansing with targeted microcurrent & LED light therapy. The front of the device has a ring of LED lights that offers near-infrared LED light to boost collagen and the back of the device has two little microcurrent nodules to target fine lines and improve elasticity (this can be used in conjunction with the massage mode of the device).
- LUNA 4 – is a 2-in-1 smart facial cleansing & firming device thanks to the T-Sonic™ pulsations for cleansing and the massage mode (using the back of the device). Same as the above but with no LED or microcurrent options.
- LUNA 4 mini – is a dual-sided facial cleansing massager with thicker touchpoints to target the oiler T-zone area, and thinner touchpoints to gently cleanse the rest of the face. It’s also smaller in size compared to the LUNA 4.
- LUNA 4 go – is even smaller, making it perfect for travel-friendly facial cleansing & massaging.
Our beauty writer's Foreo Luna 4 verdict
I was thoroughly surprised and impressed with the Luna 4. I never considered using a cleansing tool but after trying this beauty out, I can see myself using it a few times a week when my skin needs a little extra TLC. While it's expensive, if you are someone who wants to see a visible difference in their complexion, then I wouldn't hesitate to purchase. I've even shocked myself with this verdict!
With the added benefit of the massager, it doubles up as something that could arguably be used in place of a facial, which justifies the cost a little. Combining the two most crucial elements of a facial, I believe with regular use this does the job of keeping your skin looking and feeling its best, minus a trip to the spa. Truly, I'm very impressed.
