When it comes to designer collaborations, L’Oréal Paris has form. In recent years the French megabrand has collaborated with some of the world’s coolest designer labels including Balmain and Isabel Marant (incidentally still my favourite lipstick collection of 2018, if you can hunt any down on Ebay)
Now the high fashion meets high street beauty magic is continuing with what's set to be the most exciting collaboration yet – Karl Lagerfeld X L’Oréal Paris.
The collection, which was initiated by the legendary designer before he sadly passed away in February, lands on ASOS.com September 20th and is a celebration of everything that we love about the great, late man himself – a bit of edginess, plenty of Parisian chicness plus a soupçon of cheeky humour combined to create something supremely desirable.
“This line of makeup truly reflects the Karl Lagerfeld brand universe and what Karl loved in makeup – he often used eyeshadows as colours in his sketches”, said Caroline Lebar, Head of image and communication at Maison Karl Lagerfeld, of the range.
Highlights of the collection include a highlight and bronze brick, £14.99, super-skinny inky black liquid eyeliner, £8.99, and a nine-strong eyeshadow palette, £14.99 packed with party-friendly shades of smoky sapphire, on-trend rosewood and the most beautiful shimmering silver.
The six lipsticks are creamy, slightly shiny and super moisturising. Three are punchy brights, two perfect daytime nudes and one ultra glamorous deep wine shade. As you’d hope from Maison Karl Lagerfeld, the names give a playful nod to the many facets that made Karl such a legendary figure in fashion: Karismatic Karl, Kultured Karl, Provokative Karl and more.
“For the House of Karl Lagerfeld, it is an exciting moment to bring these two Parisian fashion icons together in one compelling collaboration, and bring it to life in such a cool way – and Karl’s way,” says Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld.
The chance to own a one-off piece of makeup history for less than £15? Bein sur, I'll be adding that palette to basket tout suite on September 20th.
