The Best Products From The Ordinary Skincare Range – And What They Can Do For You

Beauty-brand-of-the moment, The Ordinary, have amassed a legion of devoted followers since launching their purse-friendly skincare range just one year ago.

The Canadian brand, launched under the Deciem umbrella, has revolutionised the beauty industry by offering active ingredients at a very affordable price thanks to holding back on unnecessary scent, packaging and unproven ingredients.

Now with 32 products to choose from, including their best-selling Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, and with some new additions added to the line, we’ve narrowed down the top products from Deciem’s The Ordinary that you’d be silly not to introduce into your skincare routine.

The Ordinary Serum

Instead of spending upwards of £30 for a hyaluronic acid, which may actually draw out moisture from your skin, this bargain buy is formulated to penetrate and improve hydration levels. The oil-free formula combines low-, medium-and high-molecular weight HA, which combined with the addition of vitamin B5, you’re getting even more hydration on your skin.

The Ordinary Retinoid

One of the very few silicone-free options that targets the signs of aging. This formulation combines two forms of next-generation retinoid in a combined concentration of 2%, which minimises the irritation associated with retinoid use. But the lower concentration still packs a punch and delivers visible results all for the bargain price of £8.

Like with any retinoid though, applying sunscreen after application is a MUST as your skin will be more sensitive to UV radiation.

The Ordinary Vitamin C Serum

This water-free, silicone-free formula is said to help prevent wrinkles, boost collagen to keep your skin firm and brighten your complexion for a healthy glow. It provides 23% pure L-Ascorbic Acid which remains completely stable due to the absence of water. Expect a slight tingling though after application, depending on your skin sensitivity it could be more than a tingle, but you can always use on alternate days until you build up tolerance.

The Ordinary Niacinamide

A wonder product for all types of skin issues, this high-strength vitamin and mineral formula helps to reduce the appearance of blemishes and congestion. It should also help to calm redness, reduce inflammation and help with dullness or any type of pigmentation. Be warned though, if you use this with a Vitamin C cream or serum, make sure to alternate the time of day you use each as niacinamide can work against the vitamin C.

Some exciting new additions to The Ordinary include a couple new products to their vitamin C range. Vitamin C 30% Suspension in Silicone is great for those with sensitive skin, as it’s a much more gentle dose. According to The Ordinary, the presence of very light silicones mean the formulation feels smooth on the skin avoiding the short-lived gritty feeling of The Ordinary’s original Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres. For those with more robust skin types, 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder has a more intense effect for speedy and dramatic results.
