The Queen's new method for attending royal engagements has been revealed by an expert as Her Majesty makes a surprise appearance in London to mark the end of construction of the Elizabeth Line.

The Queen's surprise appearance in Paddington on Tuesday, 17 May, sparked excitement from royal fans who were delighted to see Her Majesty on her feet and out in London, despite her episodic mobility problems.

This royal appearance has also sparked comments from royal correspondents, one of whom claims that this appearance signifies the 'new normal' for the Queen when it comes to public appearances.

"As is now the new normal for the Queen's diary, the monarch's attendance was only confirmed on the day of the engagement (due to episodic mobility problems). There was no mention of it being a possibility when Buckingham Palace sent out details to media last week," said royal commentator and author of Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie.

The commentator then added an image of the press release from Buckingham Palace that was issued to journalists ahead of the royal engagement. The release only mentioned Prince Edward and did not confirm the Queen's appearance. This resulted in the Queen's appearance being a total shock for fans and the press.

This suggests that as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee approaches, Her Majesty's appearances will continue to be confirmed on the day as it will be unclear until the day of the event whether the Queen will be well enough to attend.

This 'new normal' falls in line with previous comments about the Queen's public appearances that were made in March 2022 by royal author, Robert Jobson.

"It’s difficult, the Palace has got to play it day by day," Robert old Royally US. "We’ve never been in this position, the Queen is the longest-reigning monarch of all time, also the oldest reigning, by some time as well."
