Sarah Ferguson opens up on not being invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding
Sarah Ferguson reflected on how it felt not being invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding
The Duchess of York, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson has opened up on the past decade of her life, including her thoughts on not being invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2011 wedding.
- Fergie was noticeably absent from Kate and Prince William’s wedding after promising a reporter access to Prince Andrew in exchange for money.
- This was not the only major event the Duchess was left out of—she was also not invited to Prince Philip’s funeral.
- In other royal news, Prince Harry supported by Beatrice and Eugenie after years of being treated like the palace 'joker'.
Over the past decade, Fergie’s presence at major events has been limited, but it seems she has no hard feelings today. In an interview with Town & Country, she revealed that she felt she wasn’t “worthy” to have attended the couple’s wedding.
“I didn’t think I was probably worthy to go to their wedding,” she says. Instead, she took herself to Thailand where she could “be far away from it” and “try and heal.”
During her daughter, Princess Beatrice’s secret wedding, Sarah was also absent from the photos due to the ongoing scandal that involved her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, and Jeffery Epstein. While certain scandals prevented her from attending significant royal events, the rift between her and the family has softened over the years as she was invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding. The gesture meant a lot to her as she expressed her appreciation during an interview with Good Morning America.
“It was very kind of them, and I can’t thank them enough for doing that because it was nerve-wracking,” she said.
Today though, the 61-year-old has a new outlook on life and doesn’t look back at her past in regret, but acknowledges that it helped shape her into who she is today.
“It’s a very good moment, because I’m free,” she told Town & Country. “She’s still with me, that person who thinks she’s fat, ugly, and disgusting, and she still has to have her hair done to talk to you, but she’s now not so vocal. The truth is, I am 61 years old and I’m free of the self-sabotaging Sarah.”
