Odd remark made by Prince William to his wife Kate is picked up for the first time by expert lip reader.

The words that Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge whispered to the Duchess of Cambridge during Harry and Meghan's last UK public engagement have been revealed by a lip reader.

The couple were sitting inside Westminster Abbey for the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes last ever public engagement. They were joined by The Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Commonwealth Day Service just days before they officially stepped down as senior royals.

A last minute change of plan saw Prince William and Kate skip the royal procession at Westminster Abbey in order to be seated with Prince Harry and Meghan but there was very little interaction with the couples.

What did Prince William say?

In his new book, Battle of Brothers, royal expert and author Robert Lacey recalls the day, which is understood to have caused a lot of upset behind the scenes.

Describing the behaviour on the day, he wrote, "Nor could it be said that the two royal brothers made any great personal efforts to 'chum up' together once they found themselves seated close."

He also revealed William's "longest coherent sentence that TV-watching lip readers could work out" but added that it had nothing to do with brother Harry.

Turning to Kate, William said, according to Robert, "This whole handshaking thing is weird. We're going to have to put a load of hand gel on after this."

The event was held at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic before any lockdown was introduced but there had been some changes to royal protocol.

It's claimed the Sussexes wereextremely angry and upset when they found out they weren't on the list, but William stepped in to try and ease the situation.

How were tensions exposed?

William and Kate chose to skip the procession along with Harry and Meghan so it wouldn't look out of place. But the plan was exposed when the order of services had already been printed which said Kate and William would arrive with the Queen, so they had done something different to the original plan.

Lacey writes, 'So there was the snub in black and white - plainly set out for all to see.'
