Princess Eugenie has taken up a new favourite hobby, and it’s something we could all get behind this summer.
The 29-year-old royal took to Instagram to share this with her followers. It turns out, she’s really gotten into gardening, and has become a patron of Horatio’s Garden, a charity that cares for the accessible gardens across NHS Spinal Injury centres.
In this lovely update, the Princess of York posted a photo of her gardening with a very personal caption that read:
‘I am so happy to become patron of Horatio's Garden.
'@horatiosgarden creates beautiful, and completely accessible, gardens for all patients at spinal injury centres across the UK.'
Since learning about this charity back in 2016, I have fallen in love with their mission to bring joy to people and help their recovery.
In 2017 I was able to visit Horatio’s Garden in Scotland, and in March this year I saw the site that has been identified at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where I underwent spinal surgery. As a former spinal patient myself, I understand how the chance to get outside is so beneficial not only for recovery, but for staying positive at a life-changing, and often traumatic, time.
I hope to learn from the patients I meet and the wonderful people working to create these gardens. #garden 🌹🌳🍄’
Princess Eugenie is hugely passionate about charity, even co-founding an anti-slavery organisation called The Anti-Slavery Collective, which she set up alongside best friend Julia de Boinville.
It’s great to see her taking part in something that is so close to her heart, giving back to an organisation that has once helped her personally.
We’re looking forward to seeing the work she does with Horatio’s Garden, and hope she will post updates to let her know how she’s getting on. The Princess is known for her kind, down to earth nature so we’re sure this will be a wonderful partnership.
