Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have released a public statement about their grief following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William's grandfather.

The Royal couple posted an image of their eldest son George in a carriage with Prince Phillip on Instagram. The caption read, "My grandfather’s century of life was defined by service – to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family."

The Duke of Cambridge continued to write, "I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life – both through good times and the hardest days. I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her. I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour!"

William continued to say, "My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job."

Prince William and Kate previously released the same Royal announcement about Prince Phillip's passing on their Instagram. However, this is the first personal message from the Duke that discusses his own grief of losing a grandfather.

Prince William and Kate aren't the first members of the Royal family to pay tribute to Prince Phillip. Princess Anne also released a heartfelt tribute to her father Prince Philip and his inspirational legacy on Instagram.

Prince William's father, Prince Charles also made a heartfelt speech about his 'dear papa' following the Duke of Edinburgh's death. Similarly, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle paid tribute to the late Duke on their business website Archwell.

It has been confirmed that the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will take place on the 17th April 2021 and due to COVID-19 restrictions in the UK, only 30 members of the Royal family will be allowed to attend this event. It was also confirmed that Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will not be attending Prince Phillip's funeral.

Prince Harry's wife, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, will not be attending the Prince's funeral. Prince Harry was spotted recently arriving in England alone ahead of his grandfather's funeral.
