Prince Louis' heartbreak as he misses out on three major royal traditions that both his siblings have already enjoyed
Prince Louis missed out several significant milestones over the past three years, but could this be set to change?
Prince Louis might be the son of the future king, but he’s missed out on three major royal traditions that both Prince George and Princess Charlotte have experienced over the years.
- Prince Louis has often been glimpsed with Prince William and Kate Middleton at royal events throughout the years, but there are 3 milestones he’s had yet to reach.
- The Cambridges' youngest child hasn’t attended a royal wedding, his first overseas tour or even his first day of school, unlike his older siblings.
- This royal news comes as it was revealed that Duchess Camilla’s royal role is ‘to be expanded’ amid the Queen’s health concerns.
Prince Louis is fifth in the royal line of succession and as one of the Queen’s great-grandchildren has delighted fans at royal events throughout the years despite his young age. At just over a year old, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s youngest son joined them on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Color. This moment during the Queen’s official birthday celebrations provides a rare opportunity for cans to see the wider Royal Family come together.
But whilst Prince Louis has marked this particular royal milestone, there are three other major traditions he’s yet to enjoy.
Unlike his older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, Louis hasn’t ever been on an overseas royal tour. This is a huge moment in the life of a young royal and sees them representing the Royal Family abroad and attending a series of exciting occasions with their parents.
When Prince George was just nine months old he accompanied Prince William and Duchess Kate on their royal tour of Australia and New Zealand. And that’s not the only international tour the future king has enjoyed, as Prince George and Princess Charlotte travelled to Canada in September 2016 for what was the young princess’ first royal tour.
The siblings also visited Germany and Poland in 2017, though as Prince Louis was born in 2018, he missed out on these exciting trips. Over the past year in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Cambridges have kept close to home, with the royals conducting the majority of their public engagements via video call in 2020. That means their 3-year-old son has still yet to experience the excitement of an international tour.
Nor has he attended an always highly-anticipated royal wedding! When Princess Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel in 2018, Prince George and Princess Charlotte delighted fans watching from home with their adorable appearance as page boy and flower girl alongside many of their royal relatives.

However, Prince Louis was not amongst them and it’s understood that at just six months old, he was considered too young to attend the big day. In recent years there has been another exciting royal wedding that he could perhaps have enjoyed: that of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
Though sadly this fairytale wedding had to be a scaled-down affair in light of the pandemic and only selected royals including the Queen and Prince Philip attended. Despite this, the final major milestone Prince Louis has yet to mark could be the first the young royal could finally tick off the list in the not-too-distant future.
His older siblings have already had the iconic first day of school photographs taken as their parents walked them to Thomas’s Battersea in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Prince Louis currently still goes to nursery, but this will all change in 2022 when he’s four and is expected to start at Thomas’s in September.
So whilst Prince Louis has sadly missed out on these three major traditions so far in his life, he’ll hopefully get to enjoy these exciting experiences very soon!
