Whether it's enjoying a quiet date night or having drinks with friends, it's clear the Royals love country pubs as much as we do. Here's a rundown of their favourites.
The Sheep Heid Inn, Edinburgh
The Queen visited The Sheep Heid Inn on her way back from the Musselburgh Races in Edinburgh on Friday. The pub's website describes itself as "a firm favourite among past monarchs and poets" and the menu boasts a selection of British favourites including Duck Lug and Fillet Steak, starting from £16.50. On her visit, the Queen and her small party ordered a pan-fried seabass and two portions of lamb and were given a window seat to enjoy their dinner. The Royals also got through half a bottle of white wine and a martini. The Scottish pub has opened its door to other famous faces including singer Kelly Clarkson and Robert Burns. However the Queen is not the first royal to dine in The Sheep Heid Inn, it is rumoured that Mary Queen of Scots stopped by the inn once to play skittles in the courtyard.
The Crown Inn, EastRudham
Earlier this year, William and Katewere spotted enjoying a quiet date night at The Crown Inn in East Rudham, a 15 minute drive for their home in Anmer Hall. The pub prides itself on its locally sourced food from farmers, fishermen and traders. The Crown Inn also describes itself as a pub that combines traditional features with stunning modern-day comfort and luxury hotel accommodation.
The Blue Lion, East Witton
A humble favourite of Prince Charles, this scenic pub is surrounded by the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is rumoured that Prince Charles enjoyed The Blue Lion's food so much that he returned the very next day. The pub's landlords Paul and Helen Klein have run the property for over 20 years and say it's the perfect blend of a quintessential English coaching inn with modern comforts, perfect for relaxing and recharging.
The Fox, Harpenden
In 2010, Prince Harry was spotted with friends enjoying some drinks in The Fox. Located on the edge of Kinsbourne Green and Harpenden, the pub's website describes itself as the "perfect escape from the hustle an bustle of London." The traditional stone building has a homely feel with cosy armchairs and open fires.
The Old Boot Inn, Stanford Dingley
The Old Boot Inn is a favourite of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who live nearby in Bucklebury and the pub's landlord, John Haley, was even invited to the royal wedding by the Middletons. The 18th century inn boasts local ales and hearty platters.
