The Sturgeon Moon is the name given to the stunning lunation that is the August Full Moon. Sometimes it's known as a Blue Moon - but in 2022 that's not the case. So where does it get its name from and why is it such a powerful lunation?

The  August Full Moon 2022 is in Aquarius and brings with it all the beautiful, brave energy you'd expect from Leo Season 2022. The annual Full Moon, which takes place as summer blazes on, is also called the Sturgeon Moon.

As well as being hyped up on all that spicy Leo energy, the Sturgeon Moon comes right after The Lion's Gate Portal opens. This annual event is the opportunity to tell the Universe what your deepest, most heartfelt desires are. Whether it's money, professional success, love, or just plain old contentment - this is your time to dream big. Making your Lion's Gate Portal manifestations as detailed as possible on that hallowed date means you can soak up all the abundance that's out there waiting for you.

Now you know why it's the ultimate time to make your dreams come true, what about its monicker? Why is it called the Full Sturgeon Moon?

In Western astrology, each month's Full Moon gets its name from a combination of Native American, European, and Colonial American sources.

Summer's last Supermoon comes after a whole host of stunning lunations during the warmer months. It follows on from July's Buck Moon and other notable dates in the Moon Calendar 2022 which included the Wolf Moon, the Snow Moon, the Worm Moon, the Pink Moon, and the Strawberry Moon.

Per The Farmer's Almanac, "August’s full Moon was traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer."

Plentiful means catching them is as easy as pie and if that's not a symbol for this carpe diem abundance-filled full moon then what else is?! So why not ready yourself for this special event with a Full Moon ritual to celebrate the last Full Moon of the summer?
