Kate Middleton giggles as Wimbledon champion Simona Halep attempts to curtsy

The Duchess of Cambridge was snapped enjoying a laugh with the Romanian tennis ace – hours after she beat Serena Williams.

As a Wimbledon Patron, Kate Middleton is a regular face during Wimbledon every year. And it was her pleasure to congratulate the 2019 Ladies’ Singles Champion Simona Halep on her first Wimbledon title on Saturday.

The 37-year-old was filmed enjoying a giggle with Simona - who quickly curtsied as the Duchess approached her.

Her sister, Pippa Middleton, can also be seen laughing at the Royal gesture.

And Kate’s relaxed nature didn’t go unnoticed by fans who praised her for being so ‘charming’.

‘Duchess of Cambridge is full of grace, class and charming. Such a nice lady,’ one fan wrote on Instagram.

Another said, ‘What a special moment. The Duchess of Cambridge is so beautiful and so kind.’

Keen to personally congratulate the new Wimbledon champion, Kate said, ‘Really well done, honestly. It was so inspiring to watch. You played an incredible game. It was really, really impressive. So congratulations and enjoy the celebrations.’

Kate was joined by her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, in the Royal Box – as they watched Simona take on Meghan’s pal Serena Williams.

As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club and keen tennis aficionado, Kate loves Wimbledon. But she was once banned from attending in 2013.

The mum-of-three was heavily pregnant with her first child, Prince George, at the time and therefore missed out on seeing Andy Murray scoop the Men’s Singles title for the first time – when he beat Novak Djokovic.

The Duchess even apologised to Andy afterwards for missing the showdown.

'I was very heavily pregnant. I wrote to him afterwards saying sorry for not being there,’ Kate told Sue Barker.
