Kate Garraway has revealed the luxurious present she received from her Good Morning Britain cameraman over Christmas.

The TV presenter, whose husband is in critical condition in hospital with Covid-19, was stunned when she opened up an inflatable jacuzzi - courtesy of her generous colleague, Darren. After letting slip to co-workers that she’d been browsing for a good hot tub, the camera operator knew exactly what to get her for Christmas this year.

Kate squashed rumors on-air that co-host Ben Shephard had given her the pricey gift, declaring, “He had nothing to do with it! It was from Darren. Everyone thinks (Ben's) is the generous one!"

While she was delighted with the brand new jacuzzi, the 57-year-old host admitted she had a tough time assembling it. “The truth is, I did struggle to get it up. It's not easy!"

Kate, whose husband, Derek, was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 last March, recently revealed that her spouse of 15 years is ‘very changed’ by the illness.

Derek, who had been in a medically-induced coma until July, is now in a minimal state of consciousness. His body has been severely affected by the virus, and the long-term impact remains to be seen.

Although access to the hospital has been limited, Kate was able to visit Derek with their two children over Christmas. “There was a lovely moment, which we did have, we did over the period get to see Derek, and the children did, which is the first time they've been able to do that,” she explained.

However, with restrictions tightened again, it is unclear when the whole family will be together again. For the time being, she is remaining hopeful that this rule will be relaxed and she will soon be able to make up for lost time with her husband.

“We’re into lockdown and that means no visits at all which I hope doesn’t continue for the whole of lockdown because I think that will be very impactful.”
