Do you ever find yourself dashing from work, then home, then out again? Or reach the end of the day and wonder where the time went? Life can be hectic when we try and fit all our commitments in.
Revamp your routine
The key to smoother work-life balance isn’t extra free time, either, but more flexibility. Being able to fit work around home life and plan in some quality time is so much easier when you can swap time slots around to avoid schedule clashes. Just think of everything you could accomplish if you could choose when you worked – maybe you could even start to write that novel, get to the gym more often, or help out a friend.
Think outside the box
The people who work for McDonald’s have discovered how their approach to flexible shifts and dedication to career progression fits their lifestyle. Whether it’s a return to work after a parental break, being able to see their grandchildren grow up or balancing life and working, stepping outside of the 9-5 has proved to be the right move for them – and it could be for you too. Two of its employees share their stories about the positive difference a job at McDonald’s has made.
Natalie, Crew Trainer
‘Originally, I chose McDonald’s for flexibility – it enabled me to be a mum as well as a working mum, when normally you have to give up one or the other. Since, I’ve had a good balance of working life and time with my children and have discovered the opportunities on offer. At my age, you can feel like all your learning is done, so being able to go back into education was special to me. About a year in, an apprenticeship was mentioned to me by a senior member of staff, which I took up. Finishing it was probably one of my proudest moments.'
Mandy, Customer Experience Leader
‘My granddaughter is the reason I came to work for McDonald’s. Up until a couple of years ago, I was a complex support worker, looking after people with severe disabilities. When my granddaughter was four, she said to me, “Granny I never see you. You’re either asleep or at work,” and I thought, “That’s right. She’s growing up too quick.” So I applied for the position at McDonald’s and as it's more flexible, I can spend time with her and my family. Almost two years later and I still love what I do: the diversity and meeting customers are the best parts.’
Working at McDonald's is more than just a job. Whatever you want to get out of your career, McDonald's can provide it for you. For more info, visitpeople.mconalds.co.uk
