A video of an adorable orangutan modeling a pair of sunglasses is breaking the internet. After a visitor accidentally dropped their sunglasses into the primate's enclosure, the orangutan used the opportunity to make a fashion statement.
On Sunday, while visiting a zoo in Indonesia, TikTok user Lola Testu (@minorcrimes) accidentally dropped her best sunglasses into the primate's enclosure. From there, she was able to capture the hilarious moment which has already gained over 42 million views and 10 million likes.
“So I’m down a pair of sunglasses but up a very good story,” Testu captioned the video.

“I accidentally dropped my sunglasses in the orangutan enclosure at a zoo in Indonesia,” they wrote at the start of the video. From there, you can see one orangutan begin knuckle-walking over towards the sunglasses. As the orangutan picks up the glasses, you can hear someone in the background say “Oh no, don't eat it."
Instead, the primate opts for a fashionable look lounging in the enclosure.
Later on, the scene changes and the orangutan is in a different spot in the enclosure still modeling the sunglasses, which are upside down. They sit with their baby, and as the baby reaches up to try out the sunglasses themselves, the parent gently pushes the baby’s hands away.
Eventually, the orangutan gets bored with the sunglasses and tosses them to a zookeeper who rewards it with a treat.
It may come as a surprise that orangutans and humans share approximately 97% of their DNA, according to the National Institutes of Health (opens in new tab). Though chimpanzees have been argued to be human’s closest relatives, orangutans have been seen to display human characteristics. In the past, an orangutan named Rocky became the first to “mimic” human speech, as reported in a BBC article (opens in new tab).
