With most of us turning to our phones rather than our friends for beauty advice, Google’s report of the most searched for beauty brands and trends gives a pretty clear picture of what’s been filling our bathrooms and make-up bags in 2019.
But how many of these beauty trends have you tried or even heard of?
We take a look at the beauty trends got the internet talking in 2019…
1. Jeffree Star Cosmetics
The namesake brand of American make-up artist Jeffree Star, it’s not for the faint-hearted. Bursting with bold brights with a hefty topping of glitter, the look Jeffree offers is full-on, delivering plenty of glow and even more drama. The Magic Star Concealer, £21, is a great introduction to the brand, covering blemishes with a lightweight, blendable formula.
2. GHD Oracle
The first of it’s kind, the GHD Oracle started a serious buzz when it launched in May. Developed over seven years with a £5.2million investment, it lets you create curls, kinks and waves with just a tilt of your hand – no wrapping or rolling required.
3. GHD Glide
Launching in February as a limited edition tool, the GHD glide sold out globally in just two weeks. Now back for good, this heated brush is the fuss-free solution to fluffy, second-day hair. Smooth through hair as you would a normal brush to banish frizz and leave hair sleek and shiny.
4. Olay Skin Age
Used by more than one million women since its launch, Olay Skin Age analyses your skin through a single selfie and your current skincare regime to determine your skin age and prescribe a new routine based on your concerns. Clever, eh? A brilliant way to find out what your skin needs without paying out to see an expert.
5. James Charles
A 20-year YouTube star with 15.9 million viewers on Instagram, James Charles’ unique make-up looks have garnered him a huge following. His YouTube transformations are well worth a watch if you have a spare 20 minutes.
A portmanteau made up of ‘back’ and ‘acne’, bacne refers to a breakout of spots along your back. Caused by everything from pesky hormones to sweaty gym sessions, it can be tackled in much the same way you’d treat spots on your face. Using a good body wash, applying a charcoal mask on your back once a week and cleansing your back after washing your hair to whisk away any left-over conditioner will all make a real difference.
7. Kiko Mizuhara
Turning her hand to pretty much everything, Japanese-American model Kiko is also an actor, singer and designer. If you’re as obsessed with Japanese culture as we are, join her 5.3 million followers for a peek inside her life in Tokyo.
Jess Beech is an experienced fashion and beauty editor, with more than eight years experience in the publishing industry. She has written for woman&home, GoodtoKnow, Now, Woman, Woman’s Weekly, Woman’s Own and Chat, and is currently Deputy Fashion & Beauty Editor at Future PLC.
She caught the magazine bug during a stint as Fashion Editor of her university newspaper alongside her English degree, and hasn’t looked back since. As for the fashion bug, that came as part and parcel of growing up in the 90s, but the less said about that the better!
Jess’ average day in the office is spent researching the latest fashion trends, chatting to industry tastemakers and scouring the internet to bring you this season’s must-buy pieces - as well as advice on how to wear them. Weekends are equally fashion-focused, and Jess has been known to visit no less than five Zara stores in a single day in search of the perfect occasion dress.
The only thing that comes close to a buzz of finally tracking down that much-coveted dress is the joy of discovering a new beauty wonder product or hero ingredient. A beauty obsessive, Jess has tried everything from cryotherapy to chemical peels (minus the Samantha in Sex and The City-worthy redness) and interviewed experts including Jo Malone and Trinny Woodall.
