The Body Shop's Body Butters have been relaunched and they're more sustainable than ever before. It's a move that is sending ripples through the beauty industry as these iconic moisturizers now pack a seriously nourishing punch, without leaving so much as a dent on the environment.
It's fair to say that The Body Shop seems to be able to do it all. With their quality products that come at reasonable prices (like our favorite Chanel No 5 dupe) and the fact that they manage to achieve all this while leading the charge for products with ethical credentials. It has always been opposed to animal testing and its Community Fair Trade scheme set the bar for other brands to follow.
Recently it has also worked to make its existing cult products even more environmentally friendly. For example, The Body Shop relaunched the White Musk Eau de Toilette, with changes including new additions but also a vegan certification and a 100% recyclable bottle made from 42% recycled glass and a removable pump.
And now it is the turn of its much-loved body butters. The Body Shop launched its first-ever body butter - the mango version - back in 1992 when Dame Anita Roddick whipped it up in her kitchen. Its moniker is courtesy of her daughter who simply said: 'It's like butter...for your body."
Since then, one body butter is sold every 3 seconds across the globe.

But sometimes even icons need a makeover to stay relevant. All the core varieties - 13 to be exact, including Mango, Coconut and Moringa - are now certified vegan and made with at least 95% natural ingredients, including handcrafted Community Fair Trade shea butter from Ghana.
The pots are now also fully recyclable, making them The Body Shop's most sustainable body butters ever. They are made of 100% recycled plastic PET, collected off the streets of Bengaluru in India, and aluminum lids (which are infinitely recyclable). This alone has helped to reduce the use of virgin plastic in their tubs by 241 tonnes per year.
There's also a new pot on the block - an Avocado addition that is made with sustainably sourced Hass avocado oil. Plus a new claim that the formula moisturizes skin for up to 96 hours and a fresh scent featuring notes of apple, among and green vegetables.
The new Body Butters are currently only available in the UK but will be arriving in the US soon. For UK customers, The Body Shop is donating 10p from every 200ml body butter purchased between 12th April and 30th September 2021 to the charity End Youth Homelessness to help launch a new Health Fund.
