Why you can trust Woman & Home Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

With a reputation for some of the most-supportive mattresses on the market, Tempur brings more than physical comfort to the process of shopping for bedding.

If you’re looking for quality memory-foam products, the Tempur name has a solid reputation that comes with the confidence that you’ll be satisfied with what you pay for. So of course, when trying to track down the best pillows for a comfortable night’s sleep, we had to try out one of their hero memory foam options to see what all the fuss was about.

The brand does have several different pillows on offer to suit whatever sleeping needs you may have, but we just went for their Original Comfort Pillow that claims to be an all-rounder to please everyone.

It is quite pricey for a pillow, however it is worth the price, especially if you suffer from back or neck pain. You can of course purchase on the Tempur website, but the popular pillow is also available in certain department stores and online retailers, which sometimes offer cheaper prices than buying direct. If you want to save some money on the pillow, it's a good idea to keep an eye out for seasonal discounts as well as special events like the Amazon Prime Day offers where the retailer offers big money-saving deals on a lot of their products.

Pillow type and design

Tempur is known for its innovative memory foam sleeping products and this champion pillow is no exception. It uses the same memory foam material that makes their mattresses so coveted, with visco-elastic cells that mold to the shape of your head without losing their support. Another really handy aspect we loved about this pillow’s design is that, unlike many memory foam pillows, it came in a traditional shape so it could fit into our normal bed linen and blend into our bedding nicely. That being said, the pillow does actually come in its own padded pillowcase that features two different fabrics on each side so you can choose whichever feels more comfortable for you. The clever fabric is also quick-drying so you can pop it in the wash when you wake up in the morning and it will be ready to go back on the pillow by bedtime—however, there are spares available to buy if you would prefer. And the sturdy zip also just demonstrates how high-quality this pillow really is.

First impressions

The first thing that struck us about this pillow was the weight of the thing—it’s definitely not one you want to pack in your suitcase to take on holiday if you want any allowance left for your actual clothes (though check out our best travel pillows if that’s what you’re after). However, the pillow size on the other hand is absolutely perfect - a dream to fit into any standard size pillowcase. Finally, a plump pillow that won’t stretch and rip our fancy bedding!

What is it like to sleep on?

Memory foam isn’t for everyone, but if you’re looking for something to support your head and neck without leaving you feeling like you’re using a brick for a pillow then this fits the bill. It won’t give you the plush bounce of a hotel pillow, but it is one sturdy cushion. It is quite thick, which makes it comfortable for those who like to sit in bed for a while before sleeping, however, it beautifully molds to your head and neck as soon as you like down. It also makes for a supportive knee cushion for anyone who has knee or back problems.

Will it suit my sleeping position?

While this pillow has been developed to use medium firmness, it won’t only suit back sleepers. Because of the pliable nature of the filling, you get in both a comfortable and supportive position using this pillow no matter if you’re a back, side or front sleeper.

Any trials or guarantees?

Tempur offers a 30-night pillow trial where you can try out the pillow for 30 days and if you’re not happy with it you can contact their customer service team who will work to resolve your problem. However, they do outline that in taking in part in the home trial the customer is agreeing to try the product for at least 14 days.

What’s not good about the Tempur Comfort Pillow Original

If you're not a fan of memory foam bedding then this one is probably not for you. It doesn't come with the bounce of a typical hollow-fibre pillow or the plush comfort of a feather-filled option - so if that's what you're used to then this one could take some time to grow on you.

Tempur Comfort Pillow Original Verdict

If you’re looking for a quality pillow that will offer you support and last for a while then this is a serious contender. Anyone with neck or back issues will welcome the comfort and support that this pillow brings—and what’s more, is that as soon as you’re finished with it the material bounces back so that every night it’s like you’re sleeping on a brand new pillow. The memory foam filling can take some getting used to if you usually opt for feather-filled or hollow-fibre and it won’t give you that plush luxury hotel feel—but it’s great for those who need some extra support.
