Kate Middleton just gave light denim a winter update with midnight-blue jumper and go-to waxed jacket for special visit
The Princess of Wales usually wears darker jeans but this time she switched things up and the pale wash added a relaxed feel
The Princess of Wales has an extensive wardrobe but there are certain combinations she always falls back on and one of them is a waxed jacket, jumper and jeans. It's simple but stylish and she just wore a 2026 version of it for a special visit to Dose of Nature, a pioneering mental health charity founded in 2018 by Dr Alison Greenwood.
The future Queen shared a post about her time there and even though we rarely see her straying from mid-blue or indigo jeans, she did here. Kate proved that light denim isn't only a spring/summer thing, but can work beautifully for the colder months too.
Her favourite comfortable jeans tend to be more streamlined silhouettes like skinny or straight-leg jeans, which also naturally look smarter. However, pale washes bring a more relaxed feel and this complemented her thick knitwear.

Sadly for fans of the Alexa Chung x Barbour jacket, this exact design is no longer available but the Beadnell waxed jacket is a lovely alternative. It also has a corduroy collar and spacious pockets on the front. It's made from Thornproof waxed cotton and has a traditional tartan lining.
Knitted from ultra-fine air-yarn, this soft, lightweight jumper is one of those pieces you can rely on in your wardrobe. It's got a cosy roll-neckline, long raglan sleeves and neat ribbed trims. There's added stretch for comfort and you can get it in a range of colours.
Slightly more cropped than the Princess of Wales's Barbour jacket, this barn-style coat has a contrasting brown corduroy collar and buttoned tab cuffs. It's finished with a concealed zip, popper buttons and the utility flap pockets are handy. There are various other versatile colourways too.
A cashmere jumper like this Whistles design is a luxurious and practical addition to anyone's winter wardrobe. The material is cosy and breathable which is great if you're wearing heavily layered looks and the roll-neckline adds extra warmth. There's a seam running down the front for a chic edge.
You can get 15% off these straight-leg jeans with the code AX6V at Boden and they are high-rise and timeless. Other washes are available too, but these light vintage ones are the most similar in shade to the Princess of Wales's denim. Pair with everything from cosy knitwear to shirts.
The Princess's jumper was a roll-neck and a deep midnight blue that you might think at first wouldn't go with such light jeans. There was definitely a big contrast between them and the lighter shade tends to draw the eye first so the combination was very leg-elongating.
The blue sweater also tied into the dark corduroy collar on her Barbour x Alexa Chung 'Edith' jacket. Kate's owned this for years now and it's one of her favourites when she's going to be outside and wants to be warm but not restricted under heavy layers.
During her visit to Dose of Nature on 21st October she learnt how the charity supports those experiencing mental health challenges through a clinically led programme that combines psychology, connection with nature and one-to-one guidance. Judging from what everyone else was wearing in pictures, the weather was cold and the Princess of Wales looked perfectly cosy.
This exact outerwear style is no longer sold, though the Barbour Beadnell jacket is similar and a waxed or waxed-look coat brings a traditional, countryside edge. Kate's one is an earthy brown tone that feels very wintry and although we didn't get a glimpse of her footwear, I predict she wore brown boots with a sturdy sole - possibly her See by Chloe combat pair.

Ultimately, the future Queen chose timeless cold weather pieces that gave her light jeans a seasonal twist. You can recreate a similar look with your favourite wool jumpers and coats - just remember to stick to darker colours on top if you want that same high-contrast effect.
Looser jeans look particularly lovely with a more fitted knit tucked in to accentuate the waist, though tapered styles are great with chunky sweaters for some balance too.
One of the memorable times we saw Kate in this kind of style was when she visited Wales in 2023 and she also wore a thick roll-neck and jeans with her Barbour, though both were deep grey. This time it felt brighter and more relaxed thanks to the light jeans she wore to visit the mental health charity.
Getting out in nature is something Kate is very passionate about and she spent time with several individuals supported by the charity, including Tom, who has since joined their staff. He explained how key Dose of Nature was in his personal recovery and it really resonated with the Princess of Wales.
"Our journey has been very, very different, but it's so wonderful to hear how your nature connection has been so healing for you, and I felt the same," she said.
