Prince Harry will keep his 'distance' from the Royal Family until after his highly-anticipated memoir hits shelves, a royal insider has claimed.
The Duke of Sussex announced in July that he would be publishing his first book with Penguin Random House in autumn 2022, in the hope of sharing the "experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him" over the course of his incredible 37 years.
"I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become," he said in a statement on the couple's Archewell website, adding that he is "excited for people to read firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful." The book, which is co-authored by esteemed ghostwriter J.R. Moehringer, will likely give Harry an opportunity to set the straight record after enduring years of salacious tabloid gossip and intrusive media coverage.
The Duke is also expected to reflect on his controversial withdrawal from the Royal Family with Meghan Markle in the memoir ‒ a decision that has been widely reported as the catalyst for his ongoing feud with Prince Charles and Prine William.
The title of Harry's memoir remains unknown, as does the exact release date, but its contents are expected to cause quite the stir back in England. In the meantime, the Duke reportedly plans to keep his 'distance' from his British relatives ‒ both literally and figuratively.
"I really do think he is keeping his family at a distance until his book is published," royal expert Richard Eden said during a recent appearance on Palace Confidential.
"I think that he is going to be saying some things which will be unpleasant and will go down badly with Prince Charles and Prince William and he almost, sort of, can't face them."
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made headlines in March 2021 with their bombshell Oprah interview, dropping numerous shocking revelations about their negative experiences inside the Royal Family ‒ including accusations of racism against Buckingham Palace and claims that their royal security had been pulled following their emigration to the US.
They've notably quietened down, however, in recent months, focusing on their independent projects instead and giving minimal follow-up information about their alleged mistreatment to the press. They also maintained a low-key presence at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee at the beginning of June, attending just one public engagement and flying back to California before the festivities had even ended.
Their silence shouldn't be confused for remorse, however, according to a Sussex insider. Prince Harry reportedly has every intention of telling his truth to the world ‒ whether the Royal Family approves or not.
In February, a friend of Harry's told the Mirror that anybody who "thinks he’s gone soft" is "mistaken".
"Just wait for the book to come out because that will shake the monarchy to the core," they added.
