Kelly Clarkson is spending her first Valentine’s Day alone this year following her divorce from estranged husband, Brandon Blackstock, having recently re-listed the home she shared with him.

But, you won’t find the Because of You singer wallowing on Sunday, as the mum-of-two is focusing on the positives and celebrating strong independent woman.

The TV star even dedicated Friday’s entire episode of her chat show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, to all the “single ladies”.

Opening up about her plans for Valentine’s Day, Kelly, 38, said, “We all know that we don’t need someone by our sides to live our best lives.” Instead, Kelly has plans to “date herself”.

“To date myself, I’m a mom of tiny little tots, so I love, literally, having a glass of wine, put the fireplace on in my bedroom.

“And I read a book or I watch some Netflix. Or I literally just hang out with my girls. I love that.”

Kelly’s admission comes just days after she confessed to not having enough alone time during her marriage to Brandon Blackstock. But why did the couple divorce?

The American Idol winner, who tied the knot with the country music manager in 2013, filed for divorce last June, citing “irreconcilable differences.”

And, despite keeping most of the details of the experience private, Kelly recently spoke out about one major contributing factor to the split.

“I think that sometimes you’re around each other too much,” the Grammy award-winning musician said on Monday, during a segment on relationships on her NBC daytime talk show.

Although the discussion was not centred on Kelly’s romantic history, the mom-of-two found herself reflecting on the importance of spending time alone when in an intimate relationship.

“That’s what I think, being single now. I'm like, 'God, I don’t think my ex and I ever had, like, me time.' I definitely didn’t.”
