‘I’m liberated from being paranoid’: Jerry Hall reveals every reason she loves living alone in her 70s

At the age of 70 Jerry Hall is living alone for the first time, and couldn't be happier. Following two divorces, she reveals why living by herself "liberates" her from paranoia, outlining every reason she finds it joyful.

"I was a bit nervous about living alone at first," she tells The Telegraph, adding, "I thought, ‘Oh God, I’ve never done this ever’, but it’s so easy!"

Jerry explains, "The house stays so clean. You can watch anything you want on TV," sharing that one of the major benefits is choosing who to share her space with.

"I only invite the people I love," she says, revealing that this is "the most peaceful, stress-free time of my life." Another incredibly valid reason to enjoy living by herself? "I can sleep diagonally across the bed.”

After marrying Mick Jagger in 1990 and having four children together, the couple divorced in 1999 after 23 years together in total and Jerry wed Rupert Murdoch in 2016.

Her second marriage ended after six years, and gave the star another reason to feel joy in her solitude. "Now I’m not worried about some woman stealing my man. I’m liberated from being paranoid," she says, choosing to remain single for the moment.

Mick Jagger was notoriously unfaithful throughout their marriage, with Jerry suggesting he also left her to take the strain of the mental load and didn't want her to have a career.

"I was in charge of the kids, the social life and the travel plans" she says, continuing, "In all relationships somebody has to compromise. It would have been fine, but then he was such a womaniser."

"Now it’s fun time for me," Jerry says of entering her 70s. For her, that looks like spending time with close friends, a 9.30pm bedtime, gardening and being a grandmother.

Daughters Elizabeth and Georgia May both have a son each, Jerry's own son James has a daughter.

"I love being a grandma,” she enthuses, adding, "What excites me more than anything is having the grandchildren come to stay. Thrilling!"

Another joy she's embracing is ageing. "I’m accepting of age," she says, continuing, "We humans get old and then we die. I don’t mind that, but I don’t do any kind of Botox or plastic surgery."

She suggests her fading eyesight also helps her accept her changing looks. "You can’t see so well. So I look in the mirror and go, ‘Hmm. I think I look pretty good,’" she laughs.

When it comes to having another relationship, it would appear living alone and being single has too much appeal. Jerry says "I’m certainly not looking for it or planning" for having a man in her life.

"I have lunch with people, a lot of men friends. But I’m enjoying just being… relaxed," she says.
