The Duchess of Cambridge is well-known for her charitable pursuits and passion for helping people who need it, but recently, she took her philanthropic nature to another level.
The royal, who has become iconic for her long, flowing hair, recently cut off a good seven inches of her enviable tresses.
She debuted the new look at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July of last year. And it seems that the rest of her long locks didn’t go to waste either, but to very much deserving charitable cause.
Reportedly, Catherine donated the seven inches of her hair that was cut off to the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children going through cancer.
It’s a cause close to home too, given that the charity has recently been awarded an MBE by the Queen for Voluntary Service, as the charity employs the hard work of many volunteers.
According to the Daily Express, the royal was convinced to go for the chop by her hairdresser, Joey, who works for Richard Ward Hair in Chelsea.
A source allegedly told them, “Four months ago Joey persuaded her it was
time to take off some of her hair; he said it was just getting too
(The royal has become famous for her long, voluminous hair)
And it’s said that the haircut inspired the heartfelt decision in Catherine.
“While Joey was snipping away the idea came to her of doing some good with it rather than throwing it away.
“She mentioned it to Joey, who thought it was a brilliant idea.”
However, the Duchess of Cambridge chose not to inform the charity that it was in fact her famous hair, instead sending the donation anonymously.
The source continued, “It was sent using someone else’s name, so that the trust didn’t know it was from a royal source – they just thought it was from a female donor in the Kensington area.”
The charity themselves have commented on the kind gesture from the Duchess of Cambridge, revealing that they had been told the news through a telephone call, a few months after the hair had been donated anonymously.
On their website, the Little Princess Trust wrote, “Late on Friday 26 January, LPT HQ received a rather exciting telephone call. We were told that the latest hair donor to join our ever-growing list of wonderful supporters was none other than the Duchess of Cambridge! When we heard the news we were absolutely delighted!”
They continued, revealing that Catherine’s hair would have been mixed with the hair of other donators.
“The charity was informed that the Duchess of Cambridge’s hair was donated anonymously. It would have gone through the charity’s processes, just like everyone’s kind hair donation.
“The wig manufacturers are the skilled specialists who blend the hair donations together, as it can take between 7-10 individual donations to make a single wig.”
If you’d like to donate hair to the trust, you can visit their website here for instructions on how to do so.
We’re sure the little girls with Catherine’s hair would be delighted to know that it came from the head of a royal!
