Things are looking up for Sheridan Smith. After personal tragedy and a series of health issues forced her off the stage earlier this year, the award-winning actress is now back in front of audiences and better than ever in the touring production of hit show ‘Funny Girl’.
The star will also likely be celebrating the news this week that Sheridan has sealed herself a record deal, which will see her release an album later this year.
While Sheridan Smith is best known for her performances in TV shows such as Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and Gavin & Stacey, and more recently ITV’s acclaimed drama Cilla and the much-talked about BBC show The Moorside, the star is also a fantastic singer. Sheridan made an even bigger name for herself, and won legions of fans, during her turn as ‘Elle’ in Legally Blonde the Musical on the West End. Her incredible vocals won acclaim from critics, and helped her win the role of Fanny Brice in ‘Funny Girl The Musical’.
Sheridan will now be lending her voice to her very own album, thanks to the deal she’s signed with East West Records. The singer took to Twitter to announce the news, confessing that she was “so excited” and couldn’t wait to get started.
“I am so excited to have signed to EastWest Records and will be releasing an album later this year” Sheridan wrote.
She added in a statement: “It has been an ambition since a child to record my own album so I’m incredibly excited to be recording some of my favourite songs.”
The music company’s president, Dan Chalmers, said, “We’re very excited to work with Sheridan, I’ve admired her for many years and she has an incredible voice. ”Sheridan’s a genuine talent, her fans love her and she’s one of the country’s finest all-round entertainers.”
