Ellie Goulding turns to Katy Perry and Princess Eugenie for 'excellent advice' during pregnancy

Ellie Goulding has revealed she has received “excellent advice” from Katy Perry and Princess Eugenie during her pregnancy. 

The Love Me Like You Do singer announced she was expecting her first child with her husband Caspar Jopling last year. Fans were even more excited to discover that Ellie waited until she was in her third trimester before revealing her baby news earlier this year. And whilst the ongoing effects of the pandemic will have perhaps made this pregnancy experience like no other for Ellie, she’s not the only star to have experienced this. 

Fellow singer and American Idol judge Katy Perry gave birth to her first child, Daisy, with fiancé Orlando Bloom last year. Whilst Princess Eugenie recently welcomed her first baby, August, with her husband Jack Brooksbank. And it seems it’s these famous first-time moms who Ellie has been turning to for advice throughout this time. 

In an interview with The Telegraph’s Stella Magazine, Ellie opened up about her pregnancy as her due date draws ever nearer. During this, she told the publication that Princess Eugenie and Katy Perry had given her some "excellent advice". This included "where to find the best pregnancy pillows to get a good night’s sleep".

Ellie also discussed her friendship with the Queen’s granddaughter, stating: "She’s been a great friend throughout this. 

"We’ve talked a lot about pregnancy and she’s been inspirational because she just takes everything in her stride."

Why did Ellie Goulding wait to announce her pregnancy?

Whilst fans were delighted to hear Ellie and Caspar’s baby news, some might have been a little confused about why she waited so long to announce her pregnancy, which she did in a Vogue interview in February. 

This is something Ellie also addressed during the interview, revealing that she needed to process the wonderful news herself first. 

"I needed time to get my head around it," she said, before going on to reveal: "I needed that space to process what was happening. I've always defined myself as a touring musician. That's who I am and what I do. Being a mother wasn't in my mind frame, I've never felt any woman had to be defined by motherhood."

She revealed that she wore her husband’s ‘big coats to hide [her] bump’ during lockdown and that it was once they settled into a new house together that she felt the time was right to tell the world.

"It felt like we had these proper roots and it was the right moment to say something – I’d also just bought a new bath that I was very proud to show off in the photographs!" she revealed.

She and Caspar are set to welcome their new family member next month.
