Princess Eugenie's birth announcement quietly missed out one key detail and it shows her priority with baby number 3
The King's niece is now a mum of three and we know she welcomed her daughter in Lisbon, Portugal
Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank are now proud parents to a baby daughter and the new arrival was announced by both her mum and the Royal Family. The royal statement confirmed that the little girl was born at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal yet neither this or Eugenie's own message said which one it was.
This might not sound unusual, but it's a detail that often gets included in royal birth announcements. When Eugenie's niece Athena was born in 2025, her father Edoardo confirmed that she was born in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Palace shared that Eugenie's first son August was born at The Portland Hospital.
It's interesting that this time she chose to keep things private and it ties in with her giving birth outside of the UK. She and Jack have split their time between England and Portugal since 2022 and they could've welcomed her daughter in a London hospital. Instead, they clearly wanted as much privacy as possible.
When August and Ernest Brooksbank were born, the parents were photographed driving home, compared to this time around when the announcement was a surprise. In Portugal the family have more anonymity and perhaps Eugenie didn't want the hospital name released so she could ensure this remains the case.
Throughout her third pregnancy she was dealing with intense media interest in her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. The King's brother was stripped of his Princely title last year, though he vehemently denies all allegations of wrongdoing against him.
His daughters are still Princesses and haven't been accused of anything but it must have taken a huge emotional toll even so. Giving birth outside the UK and keeping the hospital private could show Eugenie's way of limiting interest and intrusion whilst still getting to share her joyful news.
This isn't something she had to consider as much when August and Ernest were born and it suggests that privacy is more important than ever for the Princess and Jack. So far the couple haven't announced the name of their daughter either, however this is more likely to be because they haven't totally decided rather than for privacy.
When Eugenie and Jack became parents for the first time in 2021 they simply revealed they'd welcomed a baby boy. It was another 11 days before they shared August's name.
I imagine they'll post another snap with a name announcement before the end of summer. They've chosen quite traditional names so far and who knows whether they could pick a Portuguese-inspired moniker for their little girl to honour their new home.
The family seems to love their life out there and it's possible that Prince Harry and Meghan narrowly missed out on meeting the royal baby.
The Sussexes spent time in Portugal during their trip to Europe in July and given how close Eugenie and Harry have been, it's possible they met up. Now she's a mum-of-three things are going to be even busier for Eugenie, though she'll surely want to introduce her daughter to the wider Royal Family at some point soon.
