Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana is just as shocking to see as it sounds
Kristen Stewart first promo image as Princess Diana has been released and honestly, it’s uncanny
Kristen Stewart looks worlds away from her Twilight roots as she morphs into Princess Diana for a new biopic on the late princess called Spencer.
Kristen Stewart became an international phenomenon with her break out role as Bella Swan in Twilight. She has then cultivated a career that mixes edgy independent movies with a few big-budget movies like her vampire saga beginning.
More recently, Kristen has featured in blockbusters like Charlies Angels (2019) and Happiest Season (2020), which have propelled her back into the more mainstream fare.
Now, Kristen Stewart has set her sights on a much more royal endeavor as she will be playing the iconic Princess Di in a biopic directed by Pablo Larraín. His biopic Jackie, about the former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was Oscar-nominated. The actress is unrecognizable in this promo image from Spencer — and is the spitting image of Princess Diana.

Fans are shocked by the star’s likeness to the people’s princess. One fan wrote on Twitter, “That really took me a second, to see that it was Kristen Stewart in the photo and not Diana.” Another fan agreed and wrote, “I knew she would act perfectly but had doubts about looks, but OMG she looks just like Diana.”

The biopic is named Spencer as a reference to Lady Diana’s maiden name and will look at just three days in the royal’s life in the early 1990s. The plot follows the breakdown of Prince Charles and Diana’s marriage as the princess realizes that her life has not quite turned out the way she had planned — which is probably putting it mildly.
The film is set in Sandringham Estate, where the Royal family typically spends the holidays. The film focuses on the festive period of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
Princess Diana’s life and death have been covered in many different shows, but the director, Larraín, said that he wanted to take a different approach when looking at the Princess’s life story.
In an interview with Deadline, Larraín said, "We decided to get into a story about identity, and around how a woman decides somehow, not to be the queen."
Larraín continued to summarise the central premise of his film, "She's a woman who, in the journey of the movie, decides and realizes that she wants to be the woman she was before she met Charles."
Larraín also revealed that he knew Kristen Stewart would be the perfect actor for this iconic role. The director stated that Kristen is one of the "great actors around today."
The film will debut in the autumn of 2021. We can't wait to see KStew in this iconic role and with a posh English accent!
