Stacey Solomon just showed us how to create a captivating autumn hallway display with minimal effort

Earlier this month Stacey Solomon made the surprising announcement that she was leaving her beloved Pickle Cottage, swapping the Grade II-listed Essex home she had so lovingly restored and redecorated for a new mansion.

It is, perhaps, not surprising that the efficient Sort Your Life Out star has wasted no time in getting crafty to put her own stamp on the new place – focusing on small-but-impactful additions that bring a lot of life to a space while leaving the bigger projects for later. And as huge fans of autumn decor ideas, we've been captivated by Stacey's creative autumnal display.

Using garlands of golden leaves, fairy lights, lanterns and pumpkins, Stacey has been inspired by the season to create a show-stopping autumnal showcase at the entrance to her stairs.

While she's still unsure how to redecorate the space to add personality to the home, Stacey has temporarily got to work by adding light to the dark, wooden staircase without having to change its DNA.

Proving that a little can go a long way, the autumnal flowers wrapped around the bannister add colour that enhances the dark wood, evoking a sense of biophilic design and conjuring up feelings of a walk in the woods during the crisp autumnal months.

The pumpkin lights add a bit of whimsy, while staggering the lanterns on different steps creates a soft ambient glow that adds depth and character to the staircase. Much like when her fellow Loose Women co-star Ruth Langsford created her autumn sideboard, Stacey's efforts have left us feeling inspired to tap into some autumn decorating ideas too.

There’s a lesson to take away from Stacey’s impulse to focus on such a small area - you can make any home feel more personal and cosy without worrying about tackling everything all at once.

Sure, Stacey will have to think about bedrooms and bathrooms and bigger projects eventually, but why should all of that be in place before she can start creating new memories for her and her family?

This way, there’s a little corner of her new home that feels lived in and full of whimsy - perfect for the upcoming autumn and Halloween season and offering a place where you can think about what the whole house will feel like when it’s finished.

As for what to do with her classic, dark staircase, Stacey isn’t sure what direction to go. Writing in the caption of her post, she shared, "They’re old and worn, but they’re beautiful. The question is… Paint them? Sand them back & lighten them? Or keep them dark? Every little detail is just so special I want to honour them, but also they need some TLC!"

Comments seem just as divided over what she should do as Stacey appears to be. While many are in favour of Stacey honouring the dark, original character of the staircase, some are urging her to sand them back to a lighter hue.

Others suggest keeping the wood dark but lightening the area around it, bringing in a softening wall colour and a light runner for the stairs. Whichever way she decides to go, we’re excited to see the progress.
