James Blunt's striking yellow kitchen is a masterclass in modernising traditional style
The Celebrity Traitors star has chosen a deliciously warm, bright hue for his kitchen colour scheme
His theories on The Celebrity Traitors may be missing the mark, but James Blunt’s idyllic kitchen design proves his instincts are strong when it comes to on-trend paint shades.
The singer gave fans a sneak peek at his kitchen, while poking fun at some of his best moments on the latest series of the BBC show, and his choice of warm, butter yellow interiors was an instant hit – a perfect blend of modern warmth and heritage rustic charm.
In the clip shared on social media, James showcased the soft yellow cabinetry, stylishly contrasted with dark, grounding elements of the metallic hardware and sleek, matte black countertops.
An interesting, perhaps an unexpected colour palette for the former army man, it’s one that strikes a perfect balance between old-fashioned countryside charm and contemporary design.
Without the contrasts of the built-in fridge lights and dark shelving, for example, the yellow colour scheme could feel overwhelming and more outdated and kitsch than subtly rustic.
By stopping short of colour-drenching the kitchen in the buttery shade, James has kept it distinct but modern, offering a lesson in the art of balancing a bolder kitchen colour.

Understanding the art of tone also comes into play. If this yellow were brighter, it wouldn’t feel as relaxing. Yellows are dopamine colours, but the soft, pastel yellow feels almost nostalgic – evoking the feeling of traditional country kitchens, or sun-dappled farmhouses.

As the heart of the home, the soft, warm yellow in the kitchen creates a feeling of cosiness, making the space one that can truly be used for its intended purpose. Who wouldn't want to spend a lazy Sunday baking with the enveloping calm of the relaxing yellow tone?
The sunny colour choice might also be inspired by where James lives. It’s thought that he, along with his wife, Sofia Wellesley and their two children, owns several properties. One is an English pub in Chelsea, and the other is a home in Ibiza.
This uplifting shade would work in both. If James recorded this from his home in Spain, the warm yellow trapping light and opening up a space, those sunny days will really make the kitchen come alive. On the other hand, if it were in his London home, the sunny yellow will work over time to brighten up the greyer, rainier climate.
