Fay Ripley's brown kitchen shows how colour drenching with a deeper hue can make a large space cosy - just in time for autumn

Whether you've got a large, bland room you want to make cosy or are looking for ways to add visual interest to a space, actress Fay Ripley has made a serious case for colour drenching with brown.

Looking at the top interior paint colour trends from the past few years, earth tones and brown hues especially have continued to be popular. We're now seeing them used more boldly with the likes of colour drenching and statement walls in any room in the home. Brown is no longer just one of the best bedroom paint colours for a restful and serene decor.

And whilst you might not think of brown as a shade you'd have in your kitchen, Cold Feet actress Fay Ripley has us ready to transform our cooking and dining spaces with a new cosy paint colour.

Although the transformation, shared on Fay's Instagram @fayripley, is from a while back, it's certainly a timeless shade and one that's surprisingly well placed in a kitchen and dining area.

And whilst brown is becoming more popular, especially as we head into the colder months, and is being used in more versatile ways it's helps to have some interior design tips for decorating with the colour in any room.

“These colours evoke feelings of comfort and are easy to live with. They are a warm palette that delivers cocooning, soothing and restful schemes," says interior designer Michelle Shakallis Johnson.

"These hues work beautifully in living spaces, paired with velvet textures, dark woods, and soft metallics for an effortlessly elegant look," she adds.

We particularly love the way that Fay used colour drenching in this partitioned segment of her kitchen diner, with the colour wrapping up from the walls and across the ceiling.

Not only is this an incredibly chic way to utilise a timeless colour like this rich, dark brown, but it's also an easy way to make your home cosier. Which we're all keen to start doing once the summer ends and those colder, early nights begin.
