Jamie Oliver's colourful kitchen relies on one simple trick for a warmer, more characterful space
A clever way to add colour without overwhelming your kitchen
With the launch of his new 20 Minute Meals book, Jamie Oliver is everywhere, as is his stunning kitchen set. And we can't get enough of it.
The colourful kitchen took "months" to bring together and it channels Jamie's signature warmth, character, and casual approach to cooking. But rather than colour drenching, the design team took a subtle and inspiring route - and it's easy to replicate in even the most neutral kitchens.
If you're looking to bring more charm to your kitchen, take notes from Ginny Rolfe, Head of Jamie Oliver's Food Team who shares the thinking behind it in Instagram post.
Jamie Oliver's kitchen always has some investment staples that every chef owns on show. We've tested his appliance range collaboration with Samsung, admired his stainless steel pans, chunky butchers block, and super sharp set of knives, but in his Instagram video, the chef offers "exclusive behind the scenes tour" of "where all the magic happens" and we're not just talking about the food.
Set designer, Ginny Rolfe walks us through the space explaining how she approached the scheme. "We wanted it to tie in the book and the TV as much as possible. With the book, we've worked on white backgrounds with pops of colour." In the kitchen, you can see crisp, neutral walls and counters, lifted by an emphasis on orange, a shade that Ginny points out is directly from the book's palette.
The "pops of colour" that she describes aren't obvious in a dopamine décor, colour drenching sense. Instead, the scheme is built from considered, layered touches. Some of the brightness comes from Jamie's own serveware collection, but there are lots of other little bright objets d'art, small vases, and candlesticks to carry the warmth around the room.
If you'd like to recreate the look at home, there are plenty of easy ways in. On a practical level, some cast iron casserole dishes (particularly Le Creuset's) come in a wide range of colourways and leaving one out on the counter adds instant colour and function in one go. As a rule of thumb, I'd suggest choosing one hero shade and repeating it in three or four places at different scales so that it moves the eye around the room.

Jamie Oliver's colourful kitchen reminds me distinctly of the Sophie Robinson Dunelm Collection: it's fun, it's bright, and brimming with personality. And as we're all spending more time in our homes, there's never been a better time to test out adding some little pops of colour to your own home. And, when you're ready for it, we've been into his kitchen and got all the details on his unusual roast dinner approach too.
Jamie Oliver's 20 Minute Meals is available to watch on Channel 4.
