Woman & Home Verdict

This reasonably-priced mattress has a lot to recommend it beyond the impressive price tag. It's really soft, even across the larger sizes, and light enough to flip and move as one person. However, it's a little softer than the ratings might suggest, so always err on the firmer side.

Reasons to buy
  • +

    Comfortable, with obvious sink-in softness

  • +

Really reasonable price for the quality

  • +

    Lightweight enough to flip solo

Reasons to avoid
  • -

    Softer than most 'firm' mattresses

  • -

    Edge support could be better

How we tested the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress

This mattress was put to the test by Samantha Priestly, a member of our tester network. Here's a little more about her.

Joyce Connor
Joyce Connor

Joyce is part of our tester network as someone who is striving towards better sleep. She struggles with both night sweats and chronic back pain, so we knew we needed a mattress that would be breathable and supportive. She has an impressive eye for detail and, when she's not testing mattresses, writes about products for women.

What's the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress made from?

Working out whether the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress is for you will be heavily influenced by understanding what's going on under the mattress cover, so I've done some research into what the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress is made from and who that would suit and why. Here's your breakdown of the details:

There's a pocket sprung support system, which forms the skeleton of the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress. Each of the 1,000 springs is individually wrapped, which means that they respond independently to your body and its movements. It's this kind of detail that helps to promote spinal alignment and minimise motion transfer if you share the bed with a partner.

Alongside the springs, the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress is packed with soft fibre fillings help to increase the support as well as breathability. These are hand-tufted from a Belgian damask fabric, which feels both luxurious and a little more sumptuous. This is why the mattress is considered to err on the side of medium, rather than medium firm, as it is often categorised.

Those are the two key elements of the mattress that you need to understand: the springs offer support and the fibres offer comfort. It's also nice to know that the mattress is hand-crafted in the UK and it's also double-sided, so you can get more life out of yours before you start seeing your own imprint left behind you.

Who would the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress suit?

We had a few reasons for testing out the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress and even more reasons why Joyce was the lady who we asked to test it for us. Given its supportive construction and notably accessible price point, the Korinthian stands out as a strong choice for shoppers who want dependable, orthopaedic-style support on a realistic budget, rather than unnecessary frills. However, there are a few special details to highlight.

The Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress is recommended for sleepers who need reliable support without sacrificing comfort, particularly those looking for one of the best mattresses back pain or stiffness. Its 1000 individually wrapped pocket springs respond independently to movement, offering targeted support that helps keep the spine in healthy alignment, a key consideration for back and combination sleepers.

Joyce specifically wanted a mattress to help her back pain and has found, historically, that medium firm mattresses work well. We had some options to choose between, but went with a medium-firm feel in the Jorinthian. The pocket-sprung support is reinforced through traditional hand tufting, provides enough resistance to prevent sinkage while still delivering pressure relief through its cushioned comfort layers.

Another reason we were keen to get Joyce's thoughts is that she's a hot sleeper, prone to waking up hot in the night. We wanted to see whether this mattress could tackle night sweats and back pain in one. Technically, as a double-sided mattress finished in breathable Belgian damask fabric, should really appeal as a good option for keeping heat moving away from your body as you sleep.

Delivery and unboxing the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress

Mattresses aren't the kind of products that you'd pop through the post box, so we like to cover the delivery and unboxing as comprehensively as possible, so you can get a heads-up about how much muscle and energy you'll need on the day.

Comfybedss were really communicative and flexible when it came to delivery, which makes for a great start. Joyce, our tester, was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. She observed "the mattress was fully wrapped in thick plastic with four carboard corners to protect it." This did a wonderful job of keeping her mattress safe in transit, but was also minimal enough to go into her normal, domestic bins without filling them up.

Joyce added "I left mine to breathe for six hours, because it smelt a little like the plastic. There weren't any instructions to do so, but I would recommend it, because when I came back to mine there was no smell at all."

What's the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress like to sleep on?

This is where the Korinthian 1000 really had to prove itself. Joyce was our lead tester for this mattress because she needed meaningful back support without sacrificing comfort and from the very first night, the mattress made a strong impression. “The first time I lay on it, the mattress felt perfect,” she told me. “It was really comfortable to sleep on, especially when I’m on my back.”

That response makes sense when you look at the construction. The 1000 individually wrapped pocket springs work independently to support different parts of the body, which is particularly beneficial for back sleepers who need even weight distribution and consistent spinal alignment. Joyce reported feeling well supported through her lower back and hips, with no sense of dipping or hammocking, a common issue with softer or poorly constructed mattresses. Motion transfer was also minimal, meaning movement on one side of the bed didn’t noticeably disturb the other, which is impressive at this price point and a clear benefit of the pocket spring system.

Where Joyce felt the mattress was slightly less convincing was when sleeping on her side. While the medium-firm feel offers excellent stability, she found she would have welcomed a touch more give around the shoulders and hips. “On my side, I just wanted a bit more support,” she explained, noting that a firmer or more contouring mattress might suit side sleeping better long-term. This isn’t unusual for hand-tufted, medium-firm designs, which prioritise structure and durability over deep sink-in comfort.

Temperature regulation was another important part of the test, as Joyce experiences hot flushes. The breathable Belgian damask cover and open pocket spring structure helped with airflow, but the mattress didn’t completely eliminate night-time overheating. Joyce still experienced hot flushes, though she didn’t feel the mattress actively trapped heat either, a realistic outcome for a sprung mattress without specialist cooling layers.

Finally, Joyce noticed a slight indentation forming where she slept most often. This is expected with double-sided, tufted mattresses and is not a fault; it’s a sign the comfort layers are settling. Regular turning, as recommended, helps distribute wear evenly and maintain performance over time.

Overall, the Korinthian 1000 delivers dependable, reassuring comfort with a strong focus on support, particularly for back sleepers, and behaves exactly as you’d hope from a well-made, budget-friendly pocket sprung mattress.

Is the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress good value?

The pricepoint for the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress is exceptionally good, so it's always going to score top points for value. To get a similar performance, our reviewers had to sleep on a model that costs another £300, so as far as budget mattresses for back pain go, this is a winner.

Joyce, after testing, felt she would have liked to spend a touch more to get more springs and a firmer mattress. These choices are always personal, but I think it's really helpful to have Joyce's personal experience if you're sat on the fence.

Should you buy the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress?

If you're looking for a cheap mattress to help with back pain, I don't think you can go wrong with the Comfybedss Korinthian 1000 Pocket Sprung Mattress. Joyce recommends this for anyone looking to buy a medium mattress, rather than medium firm, and we both were impressed with the 3-year warranty on offer. It's definitely going down with a woman&home seal of approval.
