Paris. Homeland of powerhouse fashion brands and the centre of all things chic.
Paris Fashion Week kicked off earlier this week and saw hundreds of celebrities flock to the front rows to get a piece of the action.
The week showcased high-class fashion at its finest, with a selection of epic shows, including a powerful (and somewhat political) catwalk from Christian Dior, a George Michael tribute at Stella McCartney’s show and let’s not forget Chanel’s intergalactic extravaganza to close the tremendous week of fashion.
PFW certainly got the world talking in many different ways, from Saint Laurent’s “degrading” campaign to the Eiffel Tower’s anti-fur protestors. But one fashion trend in particular captured a lot of attention.
Across the week, one colour stood from the crowd as A-listers, models and designers all sported the same shade…black.
From tailored blazers to crepe skirts (and everything in between), one is thing certain…black is back.
A-listers including Uma Thurman and Salma Hayek proved that black works in all textures, from studded leather dresses to tulle skirts. Plus, the black trend doesn’t stop at clothes, as it works for accessories too. Celebs like Pamela Anderson and Michelle Williams sported black shoes, sunglasses, bags and nail polish.
As well as all-black ensembles, PFW attendees mixed black items into outfits, to expand their looks and add interest. Sienna Miller sported an embroidered black coat over the top of a floral midi dress, for a unique print clash.
Likewise, Jennifer Connelly opted for a chic monochrome look by pairing a black coat with white knee-high boots and Yasmin Sewell sported a yellow and black layered-style dress.
While bright colours are bang on trend for SS17 (we all know pinks and reds are everywhere this season), it’s clear black is also making a comeback in the world of fashion. Great news, as it’s a colour that dominates most of our wardrobes anyway and is universally slimming!
Usually, most of us worry about donning too much of it, but it’s clear 2017 is the year to celebrate our love of all things black.
