Whatever the weather, the timeless combination of jeans and a shirt always looks great. It’s one of the very best formulas to follow when thinking up autumn outfit ideas – and, even better, it’s a pairing that’s Kate Moss-approved.

Stepping out for the Tommy Hilfiger show at this year's New York Fashion Week, Kate nodded to the brand’s classic preppy aesthetic by pairing its sold-out, sky-blue pinstripe shirt with a pair of mid-wash denim jeans. A straight-leg, high-rise, Kate's jeans are a timeless staple that is ideal for the weeks and months ahead.

To accessorise her outfit and bring an evening-wear spin to the otherwise casual look, Kate left the top of her shirt undone to reveal a glimpse of her lace bra, and wore a pair of stilettos for added glamour. She also chose to fasten a striped silk scarf to her burgundy logo flap leather crossbody bag from Tommy Hilfiger, which brought in a pop of red to contrast against the blue-heavy look.

Kate’s look is a masterclass in elegant simplicity, with her capsule wardrobe pieces working together to create a classic-meets-cool, preppy outfit. Jeans and a shirt aren’t the most groundbreaking formula, but the pairing is timeless and can work for different dress codes, from smart casual outfits to office-ready attire.

Kate gave the classic combination her own spin, injecting nods to her personal style through the black lace of her bra and her stilettos. She transformed an outfit you could easily wear with your best white trainers and a practical tote into an outfit more than worthy of bookmarking for date night outfits or dinner plans with friends.

While we’re taking note of all her styling tips, Kate’s choice to accessorise her handbag with a silk scarf is one to pay particular attention to. Offering a quick and easy way to refresh any handbag style, tying a scarf or bandana to crossbody or shoulder straps can easily inject timeless pieces with a trending flair. Try adding one of the autumn/winter fashion colour trends for 2026, such as tomato tones for an instantly more modern finish.
