Get set to be inspired by their stories and what they wore…

Over the last few months we’ve been privileged to hear hundreds of extraordinary stories about women who’ve changed the world around them for the better. Through compassion, determination and sheer hard work, they’ve raised money for charities, broken down gender barriers, helped their friends and supported people most in need.

These stories are the driving force behind our 50 Over 50 Awards in partnership with
JD Williams, a fabulous initiative celebrating all those midlife women who make a difference. Three worthy winners dazzled the stage as they collected their trophies at a ceremony at Claridge’s, London, wearing stunning dresses from JD Williams.

Community Heroes Award Winner

Ten years ago, Lesley Knight tragically lost her son Thomas, 11, when he was involved in a road accident. The air ambulance that came to help was not able to land close enough to a hospital for Thomas to be saved. Amazingly, Lesley turned her grief into a force for good by fundraising for the HELP appeal to build helipads seconds away from hospital specialist care units. Lesley has now raised more than £686,000 and 21 helipads have been built as a result.

Friendship Above & Beyond Award Winner

After Veronica Kumeta lost two close friends to breast cancer several years ago, she set up Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer in 2000. She has since raised over £1 million for equipment at her local hospital, including two mammogram units.

‘Don’t Tell Me I Can’t’ Award Winner

As a woman in a notoriously male-dominated industry, Mandy Muden broke through the gender barrier to become the first-ever female host of the Magic Circle and has been awarded a Member of the Inner Magic Circle. She reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year.

We’ve no doubt you’re inspired by these stories – our woman&home fashion team loved styling them for the awards ceremony – and it got us thinking every woman deserves a special party dress. So here’s a little more glitz and glam from JD Williams to add to your wardrobe…
