I tried all 6 of MD London's new styling products in 3 days - and I'll never go back to my old routine
From a dry heat protector to salt mousse, Michael Douglas' Numbers 7-12 are so innovative
There are plenty of good, effective hair products out there, and new ones launch all the time. But what is less common in a long-established and somewhat oversaturated market is true innovation.
But if you can count on anyone to think outside the box and create something new and exciting, but also geniunely useful, it's Michael Douglas. The esteemed hairstylist is the brains behind MD London The Numbers, a range that demystifies doing your hair at home with simple, numerical names and pick 'n mix combinations.
Numbers 1-6 launched in February 2026, and now we get the second drop, numbers 7-12. These new offerings feel exciting, smell amazing and are still only £15 a pop, like the first lot.
My Collection of MD London Numbers 7-12
Of particular interest are the dry-heat protection spray, a sea salt mousse, and a humidity shield that, according to the man himself, gave Davina McCall a blow-dry that lasted seven days.
After meeting with Michael on launch day and having my hair styled and air-dried into effortless beachy waves with the Salt Mousse (The 12), I was so impressed I had to snaffle the rest of the range and try every single one in the days that followed.
Designed to create a humidity-proof protective shield around the hair, this left my 'do silky-smooth and frizz-free after a fairly unfocused and diffuser-free blast with a dryer. This is the product that gave Davina her famous seven-day blow-dry. While I certainly wouldn't get away with not washing my fine 'do all week, my roots remained resolutely flyaway-free right into day three - and it had rained on and off all afternoon.
Yes, yes, yes, I know I should be using heat protection for hair every time I heat-style - but unless it's hair wash day, am I really going back in with a wet product and disturbing my 'do just for safety's sake? Nope, nope, nope. This genius product solves the conundrum entirely: a dry mist you can spray on any time, that sets in ten seconds and defends against damage while feeling like it isn't there at all. I guess I have no excuses now!
Observant readers may have noticed my hair is, in fact, straight - so I have very little business reviewing this product. However, having spotted the lovely Olivia at MD London's springy, defined and frizz-free curls when I popped in for my visit, I'd say it nails the brief. In the interest of completism, I still wanted to try the 9, so used it to smooth my roots while pulling my hair into a low bun and, sure enough, my hair was flyaway-free and sleek but not at all crispy.
There is no overstating how difficult it is to get any kind of shine on my blonde-meets-mouse, heavily colour-treated hair. I also have the kind of fine lengths that turn into greasy straggles when oiled, so I approached this with caution, but look! Definite light reflection on the front, no grease, just silky soft strands that smell glorious. This was one of my favourite finds from the range, for sensorial value but also for showing me I can use oil too - I applied it sparingly dry and will continue to do so.
Love dry shampoo, hate claggy build-up? Yep, me too - but this non-aerosol option gives you so much control (no blasting) and really spreads the powder out into the finest, lightest little 'puff.' This is obviously very fun to do, too - which helps motivate one to use any product. I used this at the end of day 3, when I'd applied Infinite products already, and my lank roots would ordinarily be telling tales - a little puff or two kept that right in check.
I've saved the best 'till last; this clever buy feels like it was made for me - as a regular air-dryer with hair that just hangs, texture-free when left to its own devices. This takes the cool texturising of salt spray but puts it in an airy mousse that spreads beautifully and smells delicious. A few twists of my lengths and an air dry later, these cool mussed-up waves emerged, looking surfy but feeling soft. My new no.1 air drying hair tip? Use this product - I am every day now.
