This K-beauty thickening shampoo was the most intense experience - but my hair has never looked better

Soothing congested scalps and making fine hair appear fuller, this icy-feeling formula has taken my hair washing routine to the next level

We can't always have everything we want. I have a list of specific expectations of what I want a shampoo to do, but I often realise that I have to sacrifice one or more of my wants – that was until I tried this Medicube buy.

For context, my strands are fine, which means my scalp is prone to getting oily very quickly. So, my dream hair wash routine would include one of the best shampoos for fine hair that works to both bolster the volume of my hair and keep greasiness at bay.

Over the years, I've tried less than a handful of shampoos that tick all my boxes, so I was still sceptical when this K-beauty formula landed on my desk. However, I'll always admit where I'm wrong and give credit where credit's due, and this shampoo is certainly worthy of that, as it did all I wanted it to – and more.

I have to start my review by saying I've never felt anything quite like it. I know it says cooling on the bottle, but I didn't expect the feeling that was to come. My two pumps lathered up incredibly easily with just a little water, creating a foamy texture that thoroughly covered my entire scalp. It's also worth noting how easy the pump dispenser makes the shampoo application.

As for the cooling sensation, it was intense but in a good way. It was so soothing on my oily-prone scalp that I decided to leave it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing it out. It left my hair feeling sparkling clean, without being completely stripped of its moisture.

In terms of results, my hair both looked and felt more voluminous, with body and bounce – which is a pretty good achievement for someone with naturally fine, flat and limp hair. My strands felt cleaner for longer and any signs of flaking were noticeably reduced too. All of which has caused me to reach for this shampoo during every hair wash.

After my positive experiences using this shampoo, I can't say I was shocked to read the standout reviews on Amazon from other shoppers. One in particular caught my eye; the customer wrote: "I’m 52 and post-menopausal, and my hair has definitely changed over time. It’s fine, a little more fragile than it used to be, and easily weighed down by heavy products."

Washing, blow-drying and using one of the best hair straighteners on her strands every day, the reviewer noted how they were seeking "a shampoo that cleans thoroughly while still keeping my hair soft and manageable".

The customer then shared her experience using the formula: "What really impressed me is how well it works for fine hair. My hair feels clean, soft, and light, with good movement and volume after styling. Another thing I like is the cooling, refreshing feeling on the scalp."
