Healthy, shinier hair for 2027 is our goal - these are the treatments and products getting us there

From sun and sea to autumn showers, our strands have been through a lot these past months, but we're on a mission to reverse dryness and banish split ends.

Our beauty team already have their New Year's resolution sussed, and it's to have healthier hair from the very start of 2027, and to keep it that way, meaning the legwork starts now.

It's safe to say our strands have been through a lot this year, from frazzling heatwaves and humidity to colour treatments (in some of our colleagues' cases). Thus, we've vowed to lop off dry, straggly ends, restore shine and combat scalp irritation now, all with the goal of having happier hair going into the new year. Now, we realise January is still a little ways off, but achieving strong and glossy strands is not always a fast process.

That said, our team are off to a very good start, armed with winter hair repair tips from the experts, an array of treatments and trims they've already booked in for, as well as products they've added to their weekly routines.

How the beauty team are refreshing and repairing their hair this winter

From using one of the best hair masks consistently and swapping standard shampoos out for ones that are specifically formulated for their strands (like the best shampoos for fine hair), as well as undergoing scalp treatments, our beauty team are taking their hair health very seriously for the last two months of 2026.

Fiona's scalp reset

Digital Beauty Editor, Fiona McKim's main concern, post-summer, was her scalp, and so decided to book herself in for treatment at Haug London Haus Salon’s called Golden Hour, which is specifically design to offer reief to 'sun-fatigued' scalps and hair.

"Get your tiny violin out of the case and listen to this tale of woe: I went on two back-to-back holidays in September, and it did a number on my hair. No regrets, obviously, but my fine, highlighted strands did not take kindly to being double-dipped in the salty Med and scorched by powerful UV rays for the best part of a month. My ends were fried and my sensitive scalp felt all tight and bothered.

"My usual solution would be to chuck on some K18 and hope for the best but this time I decided to take a more intensive and investigative approach with Haug London Haus Salon’s Golden Hour. This treatment is designed to relieve ‘sun-fatigued’ scalps and strands, among other things, and involves a cool, techy scanner that grades your hair’s health out of 100. Confession: This was not my first hair scan rodeo, and I’d previously scored a confronting 40%, so this round’s 68% was a blessed relief (thank you, air drying), but still, there was work to be done."

Following her scalp scan, "Co-owner Phillipp selected a soothing, calming treatment with ferments to help re-balance my scalp (all good things grow from a harmonious microbiome) then followed a bespoke Fibre Clinix conditioning treatment, tailored to me based on the results of my scan. I cannot overstate how much more comfy and soft and shiny my ‘do was when I emerged from my golden hour, it was like Provence-Ibiza ‘26 had never happened. I did still get an inch chopped off the ends too, for a belt-and-braces approach - next time, I’m aiming for a cool 80%+."

Naomi's gloss & trim

For Digital Beauty Writer Naomi Jamieson, her winter hair appointment was focused on restoring shine, refreshing her colour and chopping away a good few inches of thin, broken ends.

"As a natural brunette who ditched her faux blonde over a year ago to return to her roots (literally), I get regular glossing treatments because, way back in my consultation with my hairdresser, we decided a gradual process of semi-permanent glosses blended up to my roots was the way to go, not only to protect my hair from more damage but to let my natural colour completely grow out. I typically leave three-ish months between appointments, but this summer I left a much longer gap, since I figured the intense sun would speed up the fading.

"Lo and behold, it did, and by September the intense sun had really faded my once-rich brunette into more of a bronde, and after all the humidity and frequenting of chlorine-filled pools, teamed with lots of styling with my best curlers (oops), my strands were also feeling very crispy and damaged. Thus, I made booking a winter hair appointment my top priority."

As for what she went for, Naomi says she requested a slightly darker gloss this time around, as well as "a good 2-inch trim, some layers and, as you can see, a fringe. Now, while you might think dying your hair is a 'band-aid on a bullet-hole' sort of situation (a superficial fix, but not a long-term, healing solution), glossing, when paired with a trim of split and pointy-looking ends, can be rather transformative. For starters, glossing and traditional hair dye are not one and the same. The former is a semi- or demi-permanent conditioning treatment that, yes, deposits colour and tones your hair, but also seals the cuticle and boosts shine - hence the name. My hairdresser has my glossing shade mix ingrained in her memory at this point, and truly, the difference between the shine and bounce of my hair before I sit in her chair and when I leave it is incredible.

"Heading into the New Year, my hair is shiny, gorgeously chocolatey and looks so much healthier in general - with not a straggly end in sight. So, I'd say, if you want an overall refresh, a little gloss and trim duo is definitely the way to go - especially if you want to try one of the autumn/winter hair colour trends too."

Sennen's shine-boosting routine

Instead of a professional treatment or trim, Digital Beauty Writer Sennen Prickett has upped her hair mask use in a bid to combat frizz and ward off dryness and damage.

"The sudden dip in temperatures has left my strands feeling dry and looking frizzier than normal," she comments. "So, to combat this, I’ve been incorporating hair masks and leave-in conditioners into my haircare routine. More specifically, I’ve been reaching for Color Wow's Money Mist as it boasts a deeply conditioning formula that leaves my hair hydrated, smoother and glossy. As for hair masks, Living Proof’s Moisture Rescue Mask is a favourite of mine due to its lightweight texture that boosts hydration and leaves my tresses silky soft."
