Grab your flares and your best hair dryer, because a huge 70s beauty trend is about to make a big comeback. The "waft fringe" is the latest hairstyle that experts predict will surge in popularity in 2021.
Ideal for a grown out lockdown fringe, the hairstyle that defined a decade is currently back at the forefront of our minds thanks to Jenna Coleman's role as Marie-Andrée Leclerc in BBC's The Serpent.
"A Farrah Fawcett-style waft fringe can be super versatile as it suits most face shapes as it can be adjusted," explains stylist Katie Allan, founder of MAYFIVE Hair. "You would flick it out more on the sides if you have an oblong face shape – or if the face is rounder keep it more elongated.
"This fringe has definitely developed from the 70s boho fashion trend, which we've seen at the end of 2020 and now into 2021. Fringes are often a popular choice for autumn/winter when clients are looking to freshen up their look as we adjust our wardrobes and our lifestyle!"

"If you have a grown-out lockdown fringe, you could easily create the waft effect," adds Josh Kelly, founder of HairChoice Extensions. "It's all in the styling! You just need a barrel tong and be able to flick it back off your face, combined with a lot of hairspray to keep it in place.
"No fringe? No problem! You can create a waft fringe by using a clip-in fringe and then styling by blow-drying it forwards first to create volume, and then flick out at the sides."
Fancy giving this one a go in 2021? It's definitely piqued our interest...
