The Queen has pulled out of her upcoming trip to Northern Ireland on medical advice.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has confirmed that the Queen has "reluctantly" accepted medical advice to rest, resulting in her upcoming royal visit to Belfast in Northern Ireland being called off.

The monarch is set to take time off from her work for the next couple of days in order to rest up, but has expressed her sadness over not being able to undertake her planned duties.

"The Queen has reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days," the official royal statement announced.

"Her Majesty is in good spirits and is disappointed that she will no longer be able to visit Northern Ireland, where she had been due to undertake a series of engagements today and tomorrow.

"The Queen sends her warmest good wishes to the people of Northern Ireland, and looks forward to visiting in the future."

The Queen has been busy lately, stepping out for various royal engagements after spending her annual summer break at Balmoral Castle

Having enjoyed time away from the royal spotlight up in Scotland, Her Majesty has proved she isn't ready to stay away from engagements for good just yet, paying visits to the likes of London, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

However, she wasn't ashamed to show the world that she is accepting extra help at the age of 95, heading out with a walking stick for the first time in years for her past couple of outings.

She's also made sure to have family members by her side during her recent days out, following the death of Prince Philip earlier this year.

Last week, she paid a visit to Westminster Abbey with her daughter, Princess Anne, and last night hosted a special event at Windsor Castle with Prince Charles and Prince William there to help.

As she greeted guests, without the help of a walking stick, in the comfort of her own home last night to mark the Global Investment Summit, she looked well as she grinned, chatted and shook hands.

But following her night of socializing with international business and investment leaders, the Queen is set to begin some time off, resting up instead of heading to Northern Ireland.
