The Queen made a witty joke during a historic ceremony at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on Thursday, proving her stellar sense of humor remains firmly intact despite her ongoing mobility issues.
Her Majesty attended the Reddendo parade yesterday afternoon at her official residence in Edinburgh, marking her fourth public engagement since arriving in Scotland for its annual Holyrood Week on Monday. Prince Charles, who goes by the title Duke of Rothesay on Scottish territory, was also present for the event.
The military ceremony traditionally sees the Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland Archers give the monarch two arrows, as an act of service and loyalty to the sovereign. This year's gift, however, was significantly more extravagant.
Wearing a powder blue coat and matching hat, the 96-year-old monarch beamed as the Duke of Buccleuch presented her with a magnificent glass sculpture in front of an audience of over 300 officers and archers.
The 68-year-old nobleman, who is also one of Scotland’s largest private landowners, then explained to the Queen that the upgrade had been made in honor of her Platinum Jubilee.
"Very interesting large piece of glass," she commented to its designer, Colin Reid, before the Duke went on to explain the process of its creation.

"How wonderful, how lovely," Her Majesty replied. It was at this point that she turned to the Duke and quipped, “Much better than arrows on a cushion” – a remark that was welcomed by appreciative laughter.
The sweet moment comes just one day after the Queen made a beeline for the Scottish whisky presented to her by Nicola Sturgeon.
Royal fans were quick to share their reaction to Thursday's ceremony, with many taking to social media to commend Her Majesty's uplifting nature at the event.
"She still has a wonderful sense of humor and is sharp as a tack! Bless her," one person wrote.
"God bless her heart. The Queen was in a wonderful mood. She looked beautiful as well," another fan remarked.
