Zara Tindall, Princess Anne, and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall all coordinated their hat looks for Royal Ascot as they all wore floral-themed hats to the first day of the horse racing event.

Zara wore a stunning pale pink dress with a matching pale pink hat. Her hat featured three realistic-looking roses and a delicate black lace design with pink ribbon.

When asked if floral hats are currently on-trend, Dr. Janet Emmanuel, Principal Lecturer in Fashion, Styling & Promotion at the University of Bedfordshire, revealed that they most certainly are.

"Yes for sure, as for so many of us nature has been a solace in recent months. We’ve noticed how nature regenerates and refreshes with new growth – it’s become a reflection of ourselves. The beauty and colour palette of florals lifts our spirits and helps us look forward to better times," the fashion expert revealed.

Janet continued, "It’s all about tradition and fun! Hats are a form of creative expression that allow us to be part of the celebration and we all need to have some fun now, as hopefully Covid restrictions ease."

Zara Tindall's mother, Princess Anne, also wore a flower-inspired design as her bright blue hat featured pointy flower-like details. The Princess wore a rich royal blue dress and a matching jacket with a delicate floral pattern to balance out her large hat.

Fashion expert and Stylist at The Style Editor, Samantha Harman, suggested that layering is great idea when attending British events. She stated, "Dressing for the British weather is key! Choose layers which are light enough to wear together but work on their own. So a jacket that looks great over a dress, but if it's removed, won't ruin the outfit."

Princess Anne also accessorized with some delicate jewellery and oversized sunglasses on the opening day of Royal Ascot.

The Duchess of Cornwall hopped on yet another trend as she matched her face mask to her jacket making sure she was both Covid-safe and fashionable.

Fashion Expert Dr. Emmanuel commented, "Camilla wore a pale ice blue, wide-brimmed traditional straw hat decorated with matching tulle flower and she also matched her mask to her outfit – a win-win!"

Stylist, Samantha Harman also added that they are now a fundamental accessory, so you can just incorporate the mask print into your look. She stated, "And as a facemask has become mandatory, why not match it to your outfit?"

She continued, "At the moment, it’s all about face masks—I fully support wearing a mask but they must match your outfit! A fabulous hat and frock is ruined with a mask that doesn’t complement your look. One lady I spotted looked very cool with a fabulous butterfly hat creation and matching mask with the embroidered motto ‘only remove for champagne’—you can’t get better than that!"

It seems that although the Royal Ascot is a traditional event, in these uncertain times there is definitely space for a little creativity, and the royals are more than happy to show their fun side.

The Queen did not attend the event and also recently missed the Epsom Derby, an iconic event that she has attended for the last 75 years. The Queen was unable to attend the Epsom Derby due to the strict Covid restrictions. Despite this, it is expected that the Queen will be attending the races in the coming weeks—and we can't wait to see the looks she will pull out for the iconic event!
