Prince Harry has launched an ambitious new military trek for injured veterans.

The new challenge will see wounded ex-service personnel walk across Oman – around 250 miles (400km) – over the course of 21 days.

Titled The Walk of Oman, the trek has been organised by charity Walking with the Wounded - of which the Duke of Sussex is a patron.

The charity supports former members of the British armed forces to regain independence through employment.

Set to begin on 20th November and end on 11th December 2020, the route will take individuals across part of the Empty Quarter – the world’s largest sand desert – and will finish on Oman’s Armed Forces Day.

The team will walk between 20km and 22km a day in temperatures of 35°C - while pulling a custom-built cart, weighing around 300kg.

Speaking about the initiative from his L.A. home, Harry said, ‘At the end of this year, a year that has seen unprecedented global challenges, a group of veterans will be tackling a challenge unlike anything they’ve faced before.

‘Facing searing temperatures and pulling a cart that weighs more than three times their own bodyweight, these veterans will need to summon incredible physical and mental strength.

‘I am proud once again to support them and support the veterans whose courage, determination and resilience is a credit to all of us who have served.'

While Prince Harry has previously taken part in walks at the North and South Poles, and in the UK, it is not yet known if he will join the three-week trek in November.

Run in partnership with the Omani Armed Forces, the expedition is also supported by the Royal Office of HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq.
