Prince Charles was 'irritated' by Meghan Markle's refusal to reconcile with her father, according to a new royal biography.
The future King was reportedly insistent that the Duchess of Sussex contact Thomas Markle to resolve their public feud - so much so, that he even suggested she fly to the US to meet the retired lighting director in person. The shocking claims have been made in Tom Bower's 2022 book, 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the war between the Windsors.'
It's understood that Meghan, 40, cut ties with her dad in 2018 after it was revealed that he staged photos for the paparazzi, just months before he was due to escort her down the aisle of her wedding to Prince Harry at Windsor Castle. The story spread like wildfire in the UK and US tabloids, prompting the Royal Family into damage control in a bid to protect the Sussexes' global reputation.
In 'Revenge', Bower claims that the Prince of Wales, and possibly even Her Majesty, was annoyed over the Duchess's justifications for ignoring her father.
"Meghan’s excuses irritated Charles and perhaps also the Queen," he writes. Tensions only escalated when the 74-year-old asked the Duchess to consider traveling to California to talk things out with her father in person.
"Meghan rejected the suggestion...the conference call ended with both the senior royals perplexed.”
Bower also alleged that Harry told the Prince of Wales that Meghan was refusing to speak to her father, who had a stroke ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last month, because she feared his phone was not in his "was (not) in his possession" and "his email account was compromised."
