Duchess Camilla receives huge role—and it could show she’s moving up the royal ranks

Duchess Camilla’s new role has seen her take on another important royal patronage just before Christmas and could be seen to indicate she’s moving up the ranks in the Royal Family.

Duchess Camilla’s new role as Royal Patron of the British Forces Broadcasting Service has been announced to the world. And it seems the senior royal’s long-standing commitment to her royal duties and patronages has been paid tribute to once again with this prestigious appointment. Taking to social media, the BFBS and the Duchess of Cornwall shared her first powerful message since becoming their new Royal Patron of the organization, which brings the best of UK TV, sport and music to armed forces across the world.

In it, Duchess Camilla expressed how “very proud” she was to support them and thanked them for their “incredible work”.

“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to speak to you all for the first time as the very proud patron of the British Forces Broadcasting Service,” she opened the message. The Duchess then went on to remark upon how the organisation "raises morale, forges a sense of community and lessens the distance from loved ones".

She also went on to thank the armed forces for the "unseen sacrifices that you are making for us all" in her moving address. Duchess Camilla taking on another new role could be seen as a wonderful indication of her important position within the Royal Family, as well as a lovely way to honor all her hard work and dedication, which she will now bring to the BFBS. 

According to the official Royal Family website, she already supports over 90 charities as Royal Patron or President, including Community First and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Her new role as BFBS Patron comes as reports recently suggested that Duchess Camilla’s royal role could be "expanded" further. 

It was even claimed that there was the possibility of the Duchess of Cornwall even receiving another prestigious title amid concerns about the Queen’s health. Earlier in the autumn, the Queen sprained her back and had previously been advised to “rest” at Windsor Castle, leading to her pulling out of several royal engagements.

With the Queen pausing her packed autumn schedule during this time, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla were observed taking on an even greater role within the Royal Family. As first in the royal line of succession and one of the Queen’s children, this was perhaps expected of the Prince of Wales, and the Duchess of Cornwall was just as committed to her duties.

This included an overseas trip to Kate Middleton’s childhood home, Jordan, just days after the Queen was left “disappointed” by having to miss the 2021 Remembrance Service. Upon their return to the UK, Duchess Camilla and Prince Charles have remained incredibly busy with engagements, occasions and work with their patronages.
