The BBC have announced a touching tribute to Sir Terry following his death earlier this year.
The BBC have announced that they are to rename the BBC radio building, where he presented his BBC2 breakfast show after the much loved presenter. It will now be known as BBC Wogan House. The Veteran broadcaster and national treasure Sir Terry Wogan passed away earlier this year at the age of 77 after a "short but brave" battle with cancer surrounded by his family. One of the most well known broadcasters of his generation, Sir Terry's career spanned over 50 years.
Perhaps most notably, Terry provided his infamous tongue-in-cheek commentary on the Eurovision Song Contest, with many viewers tuning in just to hear Terry's sardonic banter. He held the position for 37 years before stepping down, and Graham Norton subsequently took over. Terry also hosted his famous BBC breakfast show, 'Wake Up To Wogan', and was the face of Children In Need.
His early years were spent in Ireland. The son of a grocery store manager, Terry was born in Limerick before he and his family moved to Dublin when he was just 1. He began his career as a newsreader on RTE before leaving to work for the BBC.
Terry and his wife Helen, whom he affectionally nicknamed 'the present Mrs Wogan' was a former Vogue model and the couple were married for 50 years. Speaking of her Terry said; "Helen influenced me more than anyone. Not only has she given me the greatest thing imaginable, my family, she has also made me a better person." Helen and Terry had three children and another baby girl, Vanessa, who died at infancy.
