The Downton Abbey movie posters are here - and they're every bit as glamorous as we'd hoped

Focus Features and Universal Pictures International have released a new set of film posters featuring the Crawley family.

The official Downton Abbey film has just made another step forward ahead of its cinematic release on September 13.

Following on from a cryptic teaser trailer released just before Christmas, fans of the programme now have another reason to get excited for the programme’s feature-length equivalent, even if they leave quite a bit to the imagination.

The film is set to feature the same cast as the TV programme, with a screenplay by creator Julian Fellowes and is directed by Michael Engler.

The four posters depict Michelle Dockery’s Mary, Laura Carmichael’s Edith, Michael C. Fox’s Andy and Rob James-Collier’s Thomas Barrow, all dressed smartly, with the caption ‘We’ve Been Expecting You’ at the bottom.

The film’s small screen equivalent has been one of British television’s biggest success stories since it started airing in September 2010. It followed the adventures of the Crawley family and its servants, based in an Edwardian-era English country home, for six seasons up until the final episode aired in December 2015.

Producers have confirmed that we won’t be seeing a return of Lily James, who played Cousin Rose, partly thanks to new found success in major roles such as a younger Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

The series has been a big success at home and abroad, with three Golden Globe Awards, a Special BAFTA award and 15 Primetime Emmy Awards; with 69 overall Emmy nominations, it has been the most nominated non-US television programme in Emmy history. It has even managed to pick up a Guinness World Record for most critically acclaimed TV show in 2011.

A film had been rumoured since the series finished several Christmases ago, but last summer it was confirmed via the Downton Abbey Twitter account. It’s a very exciting time for people who have been craving more since 2015, even if Focus Features and Universal Pictures International are currently keeping tight-lipped about the film’s contents.
